Boehner to GOP: Oppose the Stimulus
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/27/boehner-to-gop-oppose-the_n_161216.html

President Barack Obama is coming to the Capitol later today in a bid to curry favor with congressional Republicans. But it appears GOP leaders have already made up their minds to oppose his $825 billion stimulus plan.

House Republican Leader John A. Boehner and his No. 2, Whip Eric Cantor, told their rank-and-file members Tuesday morning during a closed-door meeting to oppose the bill when it comes to the floor Wednesday, according to an aide familiar with the discussion.

Fine, asshole. There are too many concessions to you, anyway. You should have been barred from making any contributions, the way you have screwed things up.

1. He's gonna get steamrolled.
The stimulus bill is going to go through with or without his input or endorsement.

We've got the votes to tell the Rethugs to suck it.

16. Indeed we do...question is, will we?
I am TIRED of laying down for these obstructionist arseholes..And the same goes for Harry Reid...the next time some rethuglican Senator threatens a filibuster, CALL THEM ON IT!!!

The sight of republic senators filibustering a stimulus bill to help save the failing economy could mean the END of that stupid fucking party once and for all in 2010...

9. You're spot on right! Obama: olive branch. GOPygs: stinky diapers.
Obama will have to press Reid and Pelosi to act tough, like they should be, and either graciously help the Republicans understand what is at stake or humiliate the Republicans for standing in the way.

3. This was expected.
Which makes it even more ridiculous that Obama stuck his arm out for compromise. He's got a bite to show for it.

17. I think the bite-mark is part of Obama's strategy.
Obama starts off being magnanimous, including the GOP in the negotiations, does some concessions, then when the GOP starts being douchey and demands too many concessions, Obama can show the bite mark and say "I tried to work with them, but they just wouldn't listen to reason!" and rally the political support necessary to really steamroll them.

4. They have no power. They are just a token opposition. Obama should stop
making concession to these LOSERS and just get with the program and steamroll his economic recovery package. He was elected with a huge mandate to break gridlock and help our country recover from the Bush years.

Seriously, no one cares about them standing on principal! Its time to get stuff done! They stood on principal during the bailout and no one cared, they still lost! I would think they would get a clue...but maybe not.

13. Tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts tax cuts
A third of the money is already slated to go to tax cuts. Repube's hilarious demands for tax cuts and only tax cuts are being ignored by everybody but the media.

14. very true.
And the media is masking it in "The GOP worries that the program will not be effective for job creation." But what do they want to do to achieve job creation? Tax cuts! Tax cuts! Tax cuts! Despite polling showing that people think spending will create more jobs and are rejecting the tax cut propaganda. It remind me of how the media, after Obama won, went on a big "Don't forget Obama, the country is center right!" campaign out of nowhere.

15. Gee, who would have thought that Obama's appeasement strategy
would have this effect? Go figure, here I thought that stripping out protections for poor women and bankruptcy reform to prevent foreclosures would have caused them to jump on board.

It's time for Obama to realize that the Republicans are IRRELEVANT. Let the Senate and House Democrats come up with whatever they want, and shove it up the Republicans' asses.

18. Since the GOP plan to vote no on the bill, the Democrats might as well remove most of the tax cuts
and increase the spending on infrastracture or other immediate job-creating items.

23. Boehner said something interesting on Meet the Press
last Sunday. He said:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28841300/page/4/

MR. GREGORY: Let me ask you, before you go, about the future of the Republican Party. What is the way back?

REP. BOEHNER: The way back is to be able to communicate with the American people about who we are and what our principles are. You know, the principles I grew up with are the principles of the Republican Party, even though I grew up as a Democrat. And I've got 11 brothers and sisters, my dad owned a bar. I've had every rotten job there was in America, but thankful that I had each of those jobs. And, and you know, most Americans think that if you work hard, you play by the rules, you got a really good chance of getting ahead. And, and I don't want our party to be the party of no. I want our party to be the party of better ideas, better solutions. There are issues, a lot of issues that Americans are concerned about, and I think as a political party we have to be willing to put out--either work with the administration, work with our colleagues on the other side of the aisle or, if we disagree, then what's our better solution for the American people? And at the end of the day, I do think we have some better solutions. And over the coming months, I think the American people will see more of them.

There was a pause and then he said this."even though I grew up as a Democrat" Those principles he grew up with were those of the Democratic Party.
