What are some things you've been having a hard time getting used to?
Edited on Mon Jan-26-09 10:31 PM by Bicoastal
Personally, I find it difficult to comprehend that, not only is our President smart, but SMART PEOPLE RESPECT OUR PRESIDENT.

You see, I used to automatically label those who said things such as "I like what the President said today" or "Our President is really on top of these issues" as deluded, gullible morons. Now, they're cool people I know and even respect!

And what's even stranger is that I'm nodding my head in agreement with them! WHAT GIVES?!

1. Along the same lines...
I'm having trouble stifling the "oy veh" reaction whenever someone says "the President". I'm used to thinking of you-know-who and thinking "oy veh" by reflex. It takes me a moment to remember that the new President is someone I actually like.

2. I think some of it is just sheer contrast
Think about it...we just inaugurated an extremely intelligent President. What stark contrast to his predecessor!

10. Yes. And yet I don't see him as a black guy -
I see him as my president, our president, and a true gentleman that happens to be the leader of the greatest country in the world, and rightfully so.

12. I don't see him as a black guy either.
What I meant was I see this image that is so different from what I have been accustomed to it takes a few seconds to sink in that this guy is really the president. Usually I will see a snippet and he will sound so intelligent, so together. So different thatn what I am used to.
Lord I hope I never see the chimpy's face on TV again.

17. I practically FORGOT he was black--until Election night.
For that last month, I was just tracking his polls, and watching his speeches, and hoping like the dickens that he would win...

Then on November 5th, while celebrating his victory, I saw the footage of black people weeping and dancing at places like Spellman College and Ebeneezer Baptist Church, and suddenly it clicked--oh yeah, this is also pretty historic. But until then, I was concentrating solely on what an awesome president he would make.

The usual stuff.

And the feeling that maybe, just maybe, we finally have a shot to drag ourselves out of the dark ages imposed by the Bush-Cheney cabal.

I still get a glimpse of Dumbya in my mind. :puke: Hopefully that will fade over time -- It's been a long eight years!

16. Every now and then I have a sudden burst of clarity.....
... when I once again realize ..... THERE'S BLACK FOLKS LIVING IN THE WHITE HOUSE!!!!!

At which point I start to flail around with all of the vigor of an Appalachian fundamentalist during a revival.

I then have to sit and rest for a good half an hour after that. :)
