Gallup: Obama starts with 68% approval and only 12% disapproval..

The survey was conducted from Wednesday through Friday, Jan. 21-23, spanning Obama's first three full days on the job. Only 12% of Americans disapprove of how he has performed thus far, while 21% have no opinion. Obama's 68% approval score is on the high end of the range of initial job approval ratings Gallup has recorded for the previous eight presidents who were elected to their first term. The low percentage of Americans disapproving of his performance is fairly typical for new presidents -- although Bill Clinton and George W. Bush both started with much higher public disapproval.

2. It would be fascinating to know the demographics of those 12%..
I would guess uneducated, rural, white, lower income, right-wing talk radio listeners...

7. The dittoheads probably dominate that 12%
with the birthers making up a tiny crying minority.

16. He faked Dem leanings for a long time. Seriously.
Turned wacko around the 2nd Bush selection.

He was fun to hang out and do stuff with as long as the conversation wasn't politics.......

8. Hah! (as Tweety would say)
It'll be fun watching Freepers justify their hypocrisy now that a Democrat is president.

12. I'm extending the benefit of the doubt...
...and assuming that was a sarcastic shot at the idiots on the right who have been spewing that exact bullshit for the last 8 years. The sarcasm deadening properties of the interwebs make it difficult to know for sure of course...

3. I know some are worried about Obama being too soft or lenient...

re: Gitmo prisoners and all, but otherwise LOVE what he is doing.

((I am in the "Approve" group too for President Obama.))

Obama is being fair and balanced and is reaching out. He has the proper staff to deal with crises pertinent to national security. He's bright, articulate, on the ball, and hittin' a home run in my book. And it's only been a week.

4. Gallup spokesman said this morning that
Since WWII only Eisenhower and Kennedy started in the 60s
an both were around 62-63%.

Everyone else was in the 50s.

6. Very nice. Sane and thhinking people UNITE!
Right now we have that rarest of coalitions, when the other 2/3rds of us are awake enough (hopefully for longer than briefly) to wrest control back from the increasingly-crazies and criminals who pull their weak-minded puppet strings.

So far so GREAT, Obama! Make me sorry I doubted you.

11. It is looking promising. My only fear is that this economic mess is going to trump everything..
and Obama will be blamed as the economy most likely continues to tank in the short term.

15. According to their historical #s...
http://www.gallup.com/poll/113923/History-Foretells-Obama-First-Job-Approval-Rating.aspx

Since Eisenhower, only Kennedy has had a higher approval rating. Eisenhower had 68%, as well.

Bush had a 57% approval rating when he took office and Clinton 58%.

17. Idiots at Politico and Sludge say Obama's numbers have "normalized"...
"Now that he’s in office, Obama’s approval ratings are starting to normalize, as partisan back-and-forth picks up. Just a week ago, Gallup found an astonishing 83 percent approval of how he has handled his transition, showing he had even won over most Republicans."

Y'right... Obama: "I won!"

His approval rating has ranged from 65 to 73, I believe.
