Close the revolving door. I did not go door to door for nominal change. Obama has done wonderfully so far but this one should sink like a rock.

1. Contact your Senators and the WH. This is a Gates decision and Obama needs to step in

2. Yeah, Obama promised no lobbyists and this guy is about as big a lobbyist as they come.

3. Is this just a perception thing?
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 09:16 PM by Zorro
Are there recent cases where someone from the defense industry accepted a DoD position and used it to steer business to their former employer?

I'd be curious to find out whether there are cases where this has occurred.

6. Of course defense contractors bid on government contracts
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 09:23 PM by Zorro
My question is whether there has been any recent cases where an employee from a defense company joined the senior ranks of the DoD and steered contracts to their former employer.

I'm not aware of any, and I think that other defense companies would vigorously protest if a contract was awarded under suspicious circumstances.

7. The Big Dick comes to mind..
Cheney made a fortune just getting things ready for the Illegal Invasion and occupation of Iraq. Once the war actually began, the billions started really rolling in.

Do you think that Halliburton had to submit competitive bids in order to get the go-ahead to loot the U.S. Treasury?

8. Good point, but Cheney would be a special case since he was an elected official
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 10:36 PM by Zorro
I am not familiar with how Halliburton contracts were bid/awarded, but I presume that if Cheney did get rewarded by the corporation for steering sole-source contracts their way, then he would be subject to criminal prosecution. In that case I would hope that the professional staff at the DoJ would be aware of such shenanigans; after all, that's the sort of thing that got Agnew into court to plead nolo contendre.

The only DoD acquisition official that has served jail time recently was Darleen Druyan, but that was a case where a career government employee went from the DoD to a defense contractor after arranging for a non-competitive contract to be awarded to Boeing for USAF tankers. McCain actually raised the red flag in Congress about that, and she ultimately had to do hard time in a federal penitentiary.
