Tweety now interviewing McCarthy. Tweety and McCarthy saying that Gillibrand has been working for the NRA :wow: and stuck her neck out for the NRA in Washington, DC

Tweety says that she wanted prohibition of gun issues to be made public and tried to stop information about education of where the guns are going and where they are bought legally and illegally! Looks like Gillibrand will face a storm during her tenure as Senator.

McCarthy's vow: I WILL RUN AGAINST HER!!! I hope that someone younger comes forward, but if no one comes forward on Monday I will meet with my financial counselors to challenge and defeat Gillibrand.

8. This debate is very important for all of us Democrats to have. Where do we draw the line.
We need to stick to our principles or risk going south again like the Republicans who compromised their principles to be held hostage by the hard right which destroyed the country. Gillibrand needs to stand on principle and have the chips fall where they may. I will support her even if she is a Blue Dog Democrat if she goes and stands on principle, much like Hillary stood on her principles and never apologized for her misguided Iraq War vote. See? I love Hillary, I do not agree with her on everything (or for that matter with Obama 100%) but she does stick to her guns and you have to respect that.

2. Perhaps McCarthy and Gillibrand should work on differentiating handguns and rifles...
in the laws. Crimes are committed with handguns, and hunters use rifles.

If Gillibrand supports the rights of hunters, why not focus on the weapons hunters use.

25. Perhaps they should address root cause
I believe the public has smartened up to the gun control shell game. Actually fixing schools, mental health and poverty are on the table. Look good feel good gun control dance is done.

The rifle or shotgun is BY FAR the most effective means to kill a person.

4. I intend to contribute to Gillebrand's campaign
We have enough gun laws. We need to enforce them, and otherwise let states and cities decide for themselves what further action, if any, should be taken.

6. Obama agrees with the SC that DC's gun law is unconstitutional.
Even though he said the opposite during the primary.

Will she take her shotgun with her to Iraq?

7. Anyone have a link to Gillibrand's entire acceptance speech?
I think she offered to support any bill from McCarthy that would strengthen background checks for potential gun owners, but also vowed to protect "hunter's rights" in NY.

Her past voting record indicates that she will oppose any attempt to reauthorize a nation semi-auto ban.

20. McCarthy won't run and if she runs she won't win.
If anything, she'll just burnish Gillibrand's credentials with Republicans and help splinter the anti-Gillibrand primary vote, as progressives have already decided to run someone against whomever was appointed.

21. Oh, I have no doubt McCarthy will mount a primary challenge...
...but Gillibrand will already have all that momentum on her side by the time 2010 rolls around. She'd be better off staying in the House instead of risking everything on a Senate run.

23. And McCarthy isn't any sort of "progressive"
She's anti-gun which is to the left of most Democrats. Other than that, she takes the less controversial position usually not favored by the left.
