3. Yawn
All the important shit Obama is accomplishing, the possibility that there may actually be consequences for cheney and his gang, and we're worried about a senatorial appointment?

4. Why are Dems so damn scared to exert their/our electoral success? The time to vanquish
an enemy is when they are defeated and on the run.

With the complexity (and cover) that our governmental system gives to the politicians who run it, it is, in some cases, difficult to tell friend from foe. I would assert that at this time, with the current situation in our favor, it is precisely the wrong time to make a mistake. Better to err on the side of putting someone about whom there is less doubt as to their loyalties and views.

32. in 2000 and 2004 we couldn't vanquish our own ass with both hands and a flashlight

running against the easiest target since Nixon. Furthermore, if we continue to marginalize and exclude the FDR moderates - who constitute the vast majority of the American public - they be will running right back into the arms of the conservatives just like they did in 1980, since elitist pooftery about thinking the right thoughts all the time but not exerting ourselves to ensure they continue to relate to the objective realities of life doesn't wash with them. And 'pooftery' here has nothing to do with gay rights, but rather with a comfortable (largely heterosexual) 'upscale' orthodoxy and self-satisfied petit bourgeoisie which thinks that by parroting a bullet list of socially fashionable talking points we'll have a pleasant Sunday tea society and won't do so badly for ourselves either - the folks who arrive at the 'progressive' meeting in their SUVs. Just think of the Bay Area or Long Island and the notion that a $50,000 poverty line is perfectly fine as long as you're on the right side of it. ('Right' - no pun intended.)

This used to be called 'salon communism' back in a different time, and it is the greatest danger currently facing the Democratic Party and 'progressives' - complacency about our own moral superiority which will cause it to degenerate into meaningless fashion. This was bequeathed to us most recently by the drag that followed the Clintons around - the large mass of folks who didn't think much more than "it's good to be da king" and thought the good times would keep rolling. The symptom of our surprise at this being not fact-based was that until the 2006 successes, the only thing the Party machine could come up with was to be sure to put the word 'fight' into the subject line of every email they sent out. But the abject failure of the 2000 and 2004 elections stands on its own (and let's not whine about how they were 'stolen', we FAILED, fair and square. Yes, against amoral opponents, but then that's where the rubber meets the road, isn't it ?)

So let's make sure we have our own shit together before we get mouthy about vanquishing anyone, and let's in particular be very circumspect about concluding that the path to vanquishing the enemy is by ensuring ideological reliability in the office holders we select. That sounds about as dimwittedly fascist as what the Repubicans usually come up with.

9. Other: She'll do with 58 other Democratic Senators and a primary that she'll lose in 2 years.
I neither love her nor hate her. If she sucks, she'll probably lose her primary, and frankly, we're probably none the worse. I doubt she'll do any serious damage to the agenda, DINO or not.

I wasn't crazy about her at first because we don't need anymore Blue Dogs, but maybe she'll be okay. We'll see how she is. She should have a chance.

16. Nice push poll. She wants to extend the Bush tax cuts instead of repealing them/letting them expire.
Edited on Fri Jan-23-09 05:53 PM by ClarkUSA
Although I'm sure she'll pull a Mitt Romeny on that DINO stand, too, and become a Chuck Schumer DLC policy clone.

She also was against gay rights before she was for them and against gun control before she was for it (all in the past 24 hours).
She'll be a Chuck Schumer tool in the Senate.

Bad idea.

for this many idiots to feel compelled to describe her as the antiChrist (is that antiChristine if it's a female ? nevermind)

Our underwear is showing, folks. Or maybe it's more like one of those hospital robes that ties in the back, but not very well.

I'll show you mine if you show me yours ? Let's pass on that. Yes, let's.
