Sasha's smile could be a guide to our future

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- There are so many things that we could take away and remember forever regarding the inauguration of the first African-American president in the history of the United States, but I'll always remember the laughter of a little girl.

Shortly after President-elect Barack Obama finished the oath and became President Barack Obama, he joined hands with his family and waved to the cheering voices of 1.8 million people packed from the Capitol to the Lincoln Memorial.

People cried, others hugged, celebrities and everyday folks snapped photos to capture the moment.

There really was an amazing energy that permeated the crowd as we all witnessed a barrier come tumbling down before our eyes.

But what stood out for me was a moment when President Obama looked down at his 7-year-old daughter, Sasha, and she said something to him, and then let out this huge laugh

And SOOO smart, too. I remember when the girls and
Michelle spoke to Obama during a remote at the Denver
convention, and Barack mistakenly opened by saying
he was in St. Louis, Missouri (which was wrong -- he
was really in Kansas City). We'll never know if it
was on purpose or just coincidence that Sasha later
asked her father AGAIN where he was, and at that point
he corrected himself and said "I'm in Kansas City,
sweetie."

Talk about a political daughter right out of Central
Casting!!!!

Note: I would say the same thing if some Bushie wrote this nonsense about Jenna Bush or some Clintonian gushed this about
Chelsea. Sasha is adorable but there's nothing in her smile that can "serve as a guide to our future" unless he includes all of
the smiles of everyone in the world and even then, it sounds a bit ridiculous.

13. The one word that struck me when I first saw her was

"spunky."

Which reminded me of a kid who came to my folks' blueberry farm last year.

His parents were self consciously reprimanding him for some really normal silly behavior.

He looked through me and said, "I'm ba-a-a-d."

I said, "No you're not . . . you're just spirited."

He beamed.

I truly *love* often misunderstood spunkiness in little ones.

When I see them smile the moment they see their father, that is exactly how I would giggle with delight at my father.

It was just pure joy when I would see him and I would always rush to give him a hug as a little girl.
