So Former French President Chirac hospitalised after mauling by his clinically depressed poodle?
.
.

Former French president Jacques Chirac was rushed to hospital after being mauled by his own 'clinically depressed' pet dog.
The 76-year-old statesman was savaged by his white Maltese dog - which suffers from frenzied fits and is being treated with anti-depressants.
The animal, named Sumo, had become increasingly violent over the past years and was prone to making 'vicious, unprovoked attacks', Chirac's wife Bernadette said

The president has been bitten by his dog
The former president, who ruled France for 12 years until 2007, was taken to hospital in Paris where he was treated as an outpatient and sent home, VSD magazine reported.
Mrs Chirac said: 'The dog went for him for no apparent reason.
'We were already aware the animal was unpredictable and is actually being treated with pills for depression.
'My husband was bitten quite badly, but he is certain to make a full recovery over the coming weeks.'
The former French First Lady did not reveal where on his body Chirac was bitten.
The pet, named after the Japanese form of wrestling, was a gift to the Chiracs from their grandson Martin.
Recent polls have shown that since leaving office Chirac is now regarded as one of the most popular politicians in France, liked by 70 per cent of people.
In the last days of his presidency, he was much less popular, liked by just 50 per cent of the population.

1. I think that only dogs that have been bred to death can become
clinically depressed.

He should have had a mutt.

8. Oh, I don't know; I think his clinically depressed Poodle might also turn on him one day..
After all, being a Poodle ruined his political career in the UK.

3. A friend visited me last summer, with her Maltese. I told her she's welcome to come again,

but not with the dog. It was so high strung, snapping at the beagle, chasing the cats, jumping on the furniture and on me, yapping all the time. The little thing was out of control. This is partly my friend's fault. The dog has had no obedience work. And I expect a lot of dogs. My beagle has her Canine Good Citizen and Rally Novice titles. But mostly, this little dog was out of control.

I found myself thinking I would NEVER have a Maltese. Maybe that high strung stuff is a breed trait.

19. The key to a sound temperament is to do your homework and buy from a reputable breeder.
If you want dogs with the best temperament IMO, go to the local pound. Mixed breed dogs tend to not be as high strung IF they haven't been abused.

16. My across the street neighbor has a Maltese...
...and it is a bark factory. Shrill bark, all day long. And she leaves, leaves her windows open and the dog sits in the windows and barks until she gets back. And the dog is a nasty little shit when it gets around other dogs. It came after my Scottie and that lasted about 2 seconds when Mags let the little white piece of fluff know who was Alpha Dog in this block!

BTW: At times, I am very greatful that I wear hearing aids. Some day, I plan to tape record that damn dog and wait until my asshole neighbor is home and play the recording full blast with speakers pointed at her house the entire time she is there.

No one was the pack leader in that family, obviously. Still, I hope he is okay.

11. Result of "Little Dog" Syndrome? People often allow smaller dogs to engage in behavior
that anyone would clearly see was unacceptable for a larger dog.

When a little dog reaches up on you or jumps in your lap, you think 'Oh, how cute'. If a German Shepherd did the same it's another story.

In other words, little dogs are far too often allowed to become the "Alpha" rather than their humans.

23. with the kind of meat/fowl/fish put into dog and cat canned food,

I've wondered about the conditions of their minds. (thinking of mad cow)

and the hormone thing - yrs. ago my male cat's nipples had to be searched for because they were so small and more or less pale colored.

my neutered male cats today have bigger nipples and have some coloring.
