Michelle is an egghead; not some sort..
of beauty and clothes obsessed bimbo. She is an educated woman who wears whatever makes her comfortable and we should leave her alone about that. Better to have a woman like her than some airhead who constantly looks hot as if her life depends on always looking always well-put-together. If michelle were to constantly get her outfits right all the time then she won't even have time to think of other more important things. I prefer her the way she is. What really endeared me to Ms O was her mannerisms at the inauguration balls where she looked not so at ease, almost like a teen going on a 1st big date with the hottest guy in town. She was almost shy. And sometimes she bumbled; with grace. She did not act like some hussy who already knows all the right moves and such. Don't be too harsh on her about her clothes. Let her do her thing.

1. Being smart and enjoying clothes are not mutually exclusive.

3. First Ladies are barely a blip on my radar screen.
Their clothing is even less important to me.

4. It makes me very uncomfortable to hear
any woman being referred to as a bimbo and a hussy. But maybe that's just me.

15. I bristle when I see or hear women referred to as "girls" by other people
It's one thing if a group of women says they're going to "have a girl's night out", but all too frequently "girl" is used to diminish the accomplishments of a woman.

OK, I've vented!

5. "we should leave her alone"... or what? the thought police will get us?
She's intelligent, so that means we don't have opinions? She's intelligent, so that means she can't be conscious of more than one subject at a time? Image doesn't matter in this society?

Your insecurities are showing.

Nobody's being "harsh" on her, we love her - when a friend looks like crap do you tell her or count on nobody saying anything? Besides, Michelle knew that ball gown was a loser, she and Barack joked about it every time they danced and stepped on it!

If fashion wasn't relevant to this Inauguration, major magazines wouldn't be writing about it. It's part of the news.

6. She kicks ass. She's smart, well-spoken, tuned in and still has a sense of humor.
Edited on Thu Jan-22-09 02:33 AM by JeffR
The fact that she's beautiful and charismatic is a small but uplifting bonus for me. She could wear anything or nothing and still be a much more evolved human being than many of us are. Her husband is pretty damned good for sure, but she's got it all going on. I'm not paying much attention to her outfits. It's who's in them that interests me. Her speech at the DNC remains one of the very best in a week of very good speeches. I think the world of this woman. She's also as hot as the breeze off Tybee Island on an August afternoon.

edit: President Ape of Thoth is gone, but I still type like the Ape of Thoth.

7. An egghead?
.
.

In the slang of the United States, egghead was an anti-intellectual epithet, directed at people considered too out-of-touch with ordinary people and too lacking in realism, common sense, virility, etc. on account of their intellectual interests. The British equivalent is "Boffin"<1>. The term egghead reached its peak currency during the 1950s, when vice-presidential candidate Richard Nixon used it against Democratic Presidential nominee Adlai Stevenson. It was used by Clinton advisor Paul Begala in the 2008 presidential campaign to describe Senator Barack Obama's supporters when he said, "Obama can't win with just the eggheads and African-Americans."<2> The term is rarely used, having been replaced in U.S. politics by other anti-intellectual epithets and socially by terms such as elitist, nerd and geek.

Why use the term "egghead" Afikpo Chic?

8. AHA!
now i know why she picked that dress. it DID look comfortable. and i think she knows if she went total fashion, it would look horrid in the future. she picked timeless.

9. Dr. Biden looked wonderful.
Very nice dress.

Michelle Obama looked nice but her dress could have been better. I would have made it less fitted and draped more, like a one shoulder toga. I would have taken the flowers off that made it look lumpy and kept the sequins and/or pearls. The color was good.

That said, Michelle's clothes look great and she is awesome in all respects!!!

Looks, beauty, brains, class. I think she's got it all!

12. Her beauty emanates from her radiantly healthy spirit and body. She's a phenomenal inspiration.
She's obviously interested in clothes and makes choices that are always interesting, even if not everyone loves every outfit.

None of this takes anything away from her intellectual brilliance and professional competence, which are formidable.

B) Thank goodness we are not here discussing what Sarah Palin wore on Inauguration Day.
