Breaking via Countdown: Killian's 1970s secretary says memos phony BUT...
the content is accurate. Dallas Morning News will carry the story tomorrow.

I've suspected this all along: Rove had the real memos retyped and planted them so that an operative (Buckhead) could expose them as phony.

1. Is this Killian's secretary from the year that the memo was supposedly
produced?

6. Approx. 20 minutes after the documents were posted by CBS...
Buckhead, a poster at FreeRepublic, posted that they were forgeries because of proportional spacing.

I believe he's been identified as a Republican lawyer. If and when it becomes clear that the documents are forgeries, all eyes will turn to Buckhead. I believe there's a thread here on that.

5. Sounds to me like the documents were typed on the QT because Chimp
was a "high profile case" and they didn't want more gossip to get around.

Sounds like this secretary had heard all the gossip anyway which verifies something was up with Little Bush. So, it's possible they were typed by Killian himself or someone else.

I think this just adds more to the mystery. Maybe it was done by Killian's Commander's secretary or the retired guy that's mentioned in the memos. He might have had access to a "very private secretary."

8. As a certain DUer was just saying earlier today...
...we should remember to consider scenarios like this:

Say Burkett saw the Bush people shredding docs from Bush's file in 1994. Maybe Burkett got nosy and poked around to deduce what had been destroyed and goes through Killian's files. At a later date Burkett recreates a few documents (from his own 1990s handwritten notes?) He gives them to somebody... or mails them to somebody. Maybe he didn't mean to say they were the originals, but things got out of hand. Maybe it was an Anita Hill deal, where he shared them with someone with a promise they would not be published. Since he knows they are *accurate* it's harmless to provide them to steer an investigator in the right direction, right? But once they are out of his hands...

9. You raise a likely point that we need to get ready for.
There is gathering evidence of some kind of Army connection. According to Marx, Killian's secretary, the use of the terms "billet" and so on do suggest an Army connection. I have heard other people point to "physical examination" as opposed to "medical examination."

16. There are people (most??) here that, 50 yrs. from now, will insist..
they are real. I've suspected a Rove plant from Day One - but I've given up trying to change minds.

Show me a fit anything like this good with a 70s era typewriter and I'll change my mind.

My feeling is that the longer you hold on to a losing position, the more damage you do...

13. Was Killian's secretary ever out sick or on vacation?
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 08:40 PM by kskiska
Is it remotely possible that maybe someone else filled in and had a different style when typing letters, such as placing the signature block to the right instead of the left?

Also, there've been many times when I could have sworn I didn't I didn't typeset a certain job, but when I went back and checked my files, it turned out that I did.

15. Even a non-typist can type a short memo like that for his private CYA file
Back in the pre-computer days, not typing was much more prevalent, and many people--especially in hierarchical positions--wouldn't do it because it was considered beneath them. That doesn't mean a non-typist wouldn't type something like this himself.

14. There is enough evidence that Bush was lost for two years
and did not complete his commitment to his country.

This message keeps getting lost in the computer typewriter stuff.
Don't let people like Bob Johnson pull us all in to their defense.

George Bush did not serve; ran away from duty and lied about it.
