How the hell could the Chief Justice of the USA fuck up the most important oath in the world?
There is simply no excuse for any professional, let alone the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, to botch that up unless they are either out of their fucking mind or did it on purpose to make Obama look bad.

75. I will never forgive him
this sob did it on purpose. The defining moment... he took that away from President Obama, and I will not see it any other way.

Sadly, we are going to have to live with this chief justice for a long time.

68. yep, Obama knew it was the wrong order of words and gave him the look
Like: Got your number Roberts; I see your game.

I do wonder if Roberts' mistake then compounding it by repeating and insisting Obama do it that way, was planned or a real gaff. Either way it was disrespectful and really tipped Robert's hand. He's an elitist form of cracker. Busted!

LOL, Roberts may rue the day when it comes time to face new appointees to that court ;)

91. The repukes at work were right on it when I arrived...insisted obama had screwed up, too...
totally clueless as usual...

on an upbeat note, I took the morning off to watch it at home, unknown to me that our principals had canceled work for the morning and gathered everyone into their three offices to watch it all live on TV until the end of the speech...

and the few repukes held a "wake" or something...

Barack Obama is our President and both look gorgeous tonight. The naysayers are really annoying me!

Looking forward to a new and rejuvenated White House!

80. Oh, man...this is a GREAT day!!
The naysayers are trying their best to contribute their usual grim misery, but we will prevail!

We got our guy.

My grandfather turned 90 yesterday and he said that watching the Obama inauguration festivities made this birthday the best day of his entire life.

Take that, haters!

Joy to the world!

63. He's a Republican.
Roberts was sure that he could do it without any notes. That's arrogance.

He screwed it up. That's incompetence.

Isn't that what we've been getting from Republicans for the last eight years? Arrogance combined with incompetence. It's like a birthmark or something. They can't seem to help doing it.

...when the CHIEF JUSTICE couldn't manage to get the g-d oath right.

It ain't rocket science. This can be memorized in 5 minutes or less.

Flubbed on purpose? Or proof positive of the dumbing down of America?

73. I agree it was pretty bad
(by the way I posted this same thing in another thread just now)

Jeff Toobin said on CNN that Obama actually chuckled when Roberts screwed up because he knew the oath better then Roberts did.

I'm going to watch the video again to see it.

It makes you wonder whether or not Roberts should be on the Supreme Court.

81. Heat of the moment and because it was a big deal.
The guy is the Chief Justice for crying out loud. A ten year old kid could've done it better. A professional at any level wouldn't screw up something as easy as that. Also, because I care about how things sometime get mistakenly misperceived. I didn't want anyone thinking Obama screwed up, when it was Roberts who did.

85. How? Because he might just be human, and it's no more sinister than that?
I passionately disagree with the ideology and constraint he represents (from what I can tell, anyway, not personally knowing or studying the guy in depth), but that doesn't mean he's incapable of just flubbing something...

He's not perfect and if he were, that would be really scary.

From what I can tell, they both flubbed the speech - and I like Obama, so he gets a pass and Roberts gets vilified?
That doesn't make any sense to me whatsoever.

The whole uproar is really confusing - I don't understand it at all. To me, it serves no purpose but to belittle those who are fueling it and condemning the guy for tripping up on his words, that anyone, including our President could easily do - and he proved it then and there....

I don't see anything positive as a result of all this... is there one? What is the goal here? What does one hope to achieve from blaming this guy of deliberate hostility? Does that actually make sense? His every view may be the opposite of mine, but he's a SCJ, not a 2nd grade bully... Now Bush on the other hand... but sadly, he's been the standard-bearer for his like-minded group, but I would hope that he's close to the most infantile of the lot...

I just don't get the whole hoop-la or what it's supposed to produce that builds us up and brings something helpful or better.

I don't think the attack on him is fair or productive, personally. And that has nothing to do with whether I like or agree with the guy or not. (I don't). I still think it's misplaced and undeserved.

Jonathan Turley, a constitutional law professor at George Washington University, was hosting an inauguration party at his home in McLean, Va., Tuesday and did a mock swearing-in of 35 children. When Roberts erred, one child shouted: "That's not right!"

"He should probably go ahead and take the oath again," Turley said. "If he doesn't, there are going to be people who for the next four years are going to argue that he didn't meet the constitutional standard. I don't think it's necessary, and it's not a constitutional crisis. This is the chief justice's version of a wardrobe malfunction."

119. From the Huffington Post....Obama stepped on Roberts' opening....
The encounter was briefly awkward after Obama stepped on Roberts' opening lines from the 35-word constitutionally prescribed oath of office. The chief justice then wandered into a verbal detour of his own.

I don't think it was on purpose.
