Jill made a teensy weensy boo-boo?
She was telling Oprah, "..so I asked Joe, would you rather be Vice President or Secretary of State.." not the exact wording, but you get the idea....Obama had GIVEN JOE A CHOICE as to the position he wanted. Joe looked happily embarrassed and Jill got a cute "what did I do now" look on her face...

precious

6. Get used to it...
This will be the most scrutinized administration in history, thanks in part to the lack of vigilance in watching the previous bastards and thanks in part to the YouTube/blog era of politics. When the First Dog and Blackberry are such a big deal, you know you've reached "silly season" as Barack calls it.

28. I don't want to think bad thoughts but I had to stop and wonder at Jill saying this.
I doubt if someone of her intelligence would just "say" something without some reason. I thinkit was a gentle swipe at Hillary because otherwise it would make no sense. I think she didn't want anybody to think that Joe was passed over for SoS, for whatever reason.

I don't know why she said it. It could have just as well not been said and no one would have thought a thing about it. But she did bring it up so I have to wonder...we never know what happens behind the scenes, do we?

Biden's a good choice for either Veep or SoS.

I think she's just stating facts and I just don't see it as a swipe at HRC. I always heard she'd be AG or SC.

7. I LOVE that Barack had such a conversation, "Well Joe..."
I'd love to have heard that conversation.

Clearly, Obama wanted Biden in one of those two roles and, knowing that Biden had publicly said that he really didn't care to serve but would if asked, he was given a choice.

How cool is THAT!

But here is the problem with the leak. It can be made to look like a dis on 18 million voters. :eyes:

Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 08:36 PM by ErinBerin84
I'm sure it was an innocent comment, and she regrets if it offended anyone....but overall, I can't see how it's worthy of anger. If it was a "deliberate" swipe at Hillary, they should at least take Jill Bidens name off of the email I got the other day asking to repay Hillary's campaign debt. It had been reported before, maybe she mistakenly thought that it was known already? I can't see her doing it on purpose, honestly. No biggie. And I'm sure Hillary has more important things to worry about than a MSM created swipe.

Edited on Mon Jan-19-09 08:42 PM by ErinBerin84
The transition already released a statement about it, and her tone did not sound "bitchy" or "snarky"....again, I think it's more of the MSM stuff that they tried to use to drive a wedge against Hillary and Obama. Jill has always seemed pretty harmless to me....maybe she should have worded it different, but again, this has been speculated about before. I think it's unfair to call it intentionally "bitchy"....

that Joe Biden himself said the same thing recently to the New Yorker....like, a direct quote. And I tried to find it just now, but all I see is the stupid "Oprah slip" headlines. Anyway, I am convinced that I read the same thing....that he said Obama told him "Look, you have interest in national security, foreign policy. Do you want Secretary of State or Vice President?"

45. here's the New Yorker quote - from October 2008

http://www.newyorker.com/reporting/2008/10/20/081020fa_fact_lizza?currentPage=all

Obama also asked Biden whether he thought that he was more suited to a different position. “He said, ‘You have a great interest in national-security policy, foreign policy,’ ” Biden told me. “He wasn’t offering me this, but he said, ‘Would you rather be Secretary of State instead of Vice-President?’ And I thought a lot about that.”

Biden consulted with his closest political advisers, including Ted Kaufman, Mike Donilon, and John Marttila, all of whom have been with him since the early days of his career. “They convinced me that I could have more influence on policy as a Vice-President with Barack,” Biden said. “And so the bottom line of all of this is that I said, ‘Barack, look, if you’re going to ask me to do this, please don’t ask me for any reason other than that you respect my judgment. If you’re asking me to join you to help govern, and not just help you get elected, then I’m interested. If you’re asking me to help you get elected, I can do that other ways, but I don’t want to be a Vice-President who is not part of the major decisions you make.’ ”

54. See, the problem with people in this country is....
they are so use to things being obscured or lied about, or the truth being hidden I should say. Problem is, Joe and Jill are not into lying, or hiding the truth. I see nothing wrong with what she said. If we are going to have an open government, then we shouldn't be making an issue out of someone simply telling the truth. So what, who gives a shit what choices he had. He made the right decision for this country, and his family. When the truth is seen as a 'gaffe', or an 'oops', it's a sad statement to what a superficial society we have become; preferring subterfuge and clandestineness to the facts, and open forms of communication.

This was not a 'gaffe', or an 'oops'. She was telling the TRUTH. I could care less who's panties get bunched up about this.
