for those who think the Kitty Kelly book will hurt Bush.......
I live in So Cal. We all thought the sexual groping allegations against Schwarzenegger would kill him.

They didn't.

He won.

Anybody gloating over the KK book might want to keep that in mind.

It might actually make people feel sorry for little Georgie Boy. For some reason he gets a lot of sympathy from people. Maybe it's because he's the antichrist. I don't know.

1. It's because he's the antiChrist.
And because Lee Atwater's deathbed conversion to humanity impressed no one.

11. He felt bad about what he'd done. Boo-hoo
Supposedly at the end of his life, Lee Atwater expressed remorse for some of his more vicious campaign tactics (especially against Tom Turnipseed) and may have called some of his victims to apologize. Big deal - it obviously did no good, as what else is Karl Rove but Lee Atwater writ large?

I wouldn't wish what happened to Lee Atwater on anyone, but it's hard for someone to make up for the evil he perpetrated merely by feeling sorry when it's too late to effect an actual change. What George W. Bush learned is not, don't do what Atwater did, but, do it bigger, meaner, and better. Considering what he started, Atwater's apology is less than inadequate.

because it may not.

What we think seems to be irrelevant to the American people.

5. Please...it's wasted breath....
There is a large contingent of people who don't get that due to the way the media works at this point, that attack ads and mudslinging are effective when they're leveled at dems and ineffective and bad when leveled at republicans. I don't care how much rationalizing or analyzing people do of this, I stick by my statement.

The fact is that when we put so much stock in stuff like this as the way to bring Jr. down, it's pretty much just preaching to the choir and so-called "red meat" for the left. It does nothing to gain us anything. We can enjoy it and read about it and whatever, but the notion that it is going to do any kind of political damage is sorely misplaced.

6. Kitty Kelly is just icing on the cake.
It is just for fun, as far as I am concerned. I don't get my hopes up when it pertains to the media anymore.

The cake is GOTV. That is the only way we win this thing.

It's either a win or a tie. There isn't a downside. He's definitely not going to receive any sympathy report. Relax and see what happens.
If it takes off, we'll rejoice. Otherwise, it will take it's place among the numerous other scandals that have been swept under the rug.

and it really pisses off the BFEE mafia. I see it as just another thing for them to feel upset over. They are all about secrecy and strive to keep bad stuff out of the public eye, It has to make them furious. I don't think it hurts us either.

Go Kelly !! You go, girl !

16. We have 40,000 National Guard troops in Iraq getting shot at and killed
Edited on Tue Sep-14-04 12:42 PM by xray s
If Bush snorted his way through the TANG and got grounded because of it...and then got special treatment to protect the Bush family name... while others were dying in his place in Vietnam...THAT is a big deal to someone who has a loved one fighting over in Iraq right now.

And that is the difference between Ah-nolds groping and Bush's snorting.

17. The timing of the allegations against Schwarz. was incredibly good for him
Remember, the stories came out less than a week (two days?) before the election. Arnold was up big at the time, the story came from one paper, it was a big surprise, and his replies were not very strong ("where there's smoke there's fire?").

This is the kind of issue that needed about a month to smolder, for stories to trickle out, for Arnold to continue making stupid comments, for some sympathy to build for these unknown accusers.

Instead, Arnold slammed the "liberal media" and did the "sucker punched" routine and that was enough to bail out most of the water from the initial blow.

Then, boom, it was time to vote, and even though I think I read Arnold received fewer votes than Davis received "yes" votes, Arnold won and that was the story and left the impression that "nobody cared about the allegations".

Basically, the timing was incredibly perfect for him. Imagine if the press had a solid month of otherwise slow news to chew on that whole thing???? It would have killed him if it had come up a month before OR AFTER the election.

Coming out right before the election was a dream for Arnold. Did he plant the story???? We'll never know, but he will never have to deal with this issue again, or in any kind of depth, thanks to the timing of the allegations.

19. It's an amusing sideshow!
The Kerry campaign needs to take the high road & discuss important, meaningful issues. (Whether the media will take note, who knows?)

I'm not depending on Kelley's book for anything. But I know it annoys the hell out of Bush & CO, so let's hope it does well.

is littered with the bodies of LOSERS!

In American politics you rarely win on the high road, especially national elections.

23. And sadly...
... speaking the truth out loud, tapping into justified anger and turning it into something potent and productive -- well, sadly, that's considered "the low road" these days.
