if that is what Chicago is like in the winter! Its about 10 here in CT, will be -2 tonight. We don't usually get extreme cold but we do get a lot of snow.

degrees straight up. I'm not sure if that was the low or not, probably not, because I slept late since we found out school was going to be closed AGAIN last night around 8:30 pm.

They don't want any kids at bus stops in this type of weather.

We are tough up here so nhah.

I'm actually always surprised that we don't have any or more deaths during these types of horrendous cold snaps.

We were down to the ugly brown grass showing a week or so ago and got dumped on by snow a couple of times so at least it looks pretty and like it should be cold. The bad part from the pretty snow - we now have enough to make those big snow mountains at corners that make it so hard to tell when it is safe to pull into traffic.

We have seasons. Such is life. :)

edit to add: it is currently -17 with a windchill of -41. We are supposed to warm up to a balmy -9 today.

for the last two days, and I doubt there'll be school tomorrow. Predicted high for tomorrow is 8 above, but that's not expected until evening. When the kids would be leaving for school, they're expecting -18 to -20 air temps.

23. I live in the desert SW and begin to shiver when the temps gets below 85 degrees F -
BUT before you start casting stones - We live in a climate that averages 100 degrees PLUS for almost six months of our year. In mid-summer the temps seldom go down below 90 degrees and YES our blood does thin out so we freeze up at the slightest drop in the temps. How would you fare at 118 degrees F?
