Joe's Farwell Speech is a Warm-up for Tuesday.
I've long ago understood that when Joe Biden speaks, he speaks for the the President.

His farewell address to the Senate is heavily laden with stories of working across the aisle with the greats of recent Senate history. Barack hinted several weeks ago that this will be a major theme in his speech on Tuesday.

Those of you who aren't keen on making nice with the other guys better hold onto you seats it may be a long 8 years for you.

"Friendship and Death are Great Equalizers .... Death will seek us all at some point, but WE must CHOOSE to seek Friendship. Our ability to work together, with people with whome we have a deep and abiding disagreement, especially in these consequential times, I believe is going to determine whether or not we succeed in restoring America."

I think it's lovely .... but I have a fatal habit of wanting to assume the best in people.

1. It is not so much not wanting to work with pugs - it is believing that
they will not work with us under any circumstances. Now I did not mean that no one on the other side has the brains to realize we are in trouble enough that it calls for working together. However, much of *ss's old guard are still in congress. The trickle down crowd will stand stubbornly watching the baby be thrown out with the bath water.

2. The republicans will do everything they can to block Obama and Biden
as well as anything the Democrats try and pass.

3. The public wants the Rethugs to work with Obama per some recent polls
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 11:10 AM by Jennicut
If they want to keep their jobs they won't impede progress. You can also be friends with someone and disagree with them on every issue. My parents are both conservatives who I love to death but we disagree on everything. Still, at least My Mom (not sure about my Dad...hee hee) wants to see Obama succeed for the sake of the country.

4. Exactly, they are getting an ultimatum from the people
work with Obama and the democrats to get things solved or get voted out. Needless to say, we will be getting things solved our way, not the GOP way.

6. Yep, even if they're not motivated by ....
... the noble reasons I'd like to think they are, I'll take it.

7. There was some repug on CSpan Washington Journal this morning -
Rep. McCarthy (?) I'm not sure of his name, I was just waking up when I turned it on.

But - he was talking about how impressed the repugs are with Obama for meeting with them and listening to what they had to say. He was getting phone calls from repugs saying they need to block Obama and the dems at every corner, and McCarthy was saying NO - they will work with Obama.

So there you go.

Obama has set the stage. He knows he needs them to help get his agenda passed.
He knows what needs to be done. The repugs are willing to work with this new administration.
And Joe - he has been doing it for years.

You attract more flies with honey than with vinegar.

I look forward to a very productive four years. And then on to the next four.

12. Yeah, we'll stop shooting at them if they stop shooting at us first.
That strategy is working SO well in Gaza huh? :)

13. It's a nice gesture, but I'm not sure this will end well.
Politics = war for too many Republicans. We've already seen the damage they're willing to do to get their way, and have never showed one ounce of willingness to compromise.

I hope the Obama administration knows something we don't know.
