Bush History-A Pretend Cowboy, A Science Lie, An Iraq Admission, & Economic Failure, 1/15

Bush takes a hit for his pretend-cowboy persona from a prominent GOPer on this date in 2000 (with related yee-haw Bushisms). Also, a Bush campaign promise is made on respecting science, a promise soon to be broken (2000). In 2007 we find the president finally admitting to some of his oh-so-obvious Iraq failures, and in 2008 we have a Bush failure on inflation.

More details, from the 2009 Bush Blunder Calendar ...

Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 03:19 AM by LaPera
but lots of brush to cut (for the camera's), still a "cowboy", all republicans prez ( Reagan, and nominees, McCain has a "ranch") pretending to be cowboys...cuz they are tough dudes?

I know this is not your point, and your assertion is well taken....But why do republican voters find it so important (and it seems to be) that their presidents pretend to be phony redneck cowboys?

Image, but why?

2. Rugged Individualism? A Simpler Time? Independence?
A very good question, the why of that cowboy image. I thought I saw a headline saying the Bush's are NOT going back to the ranch in Crawford? Maybe he can cut the act, now that he will no longer be president.

There is something attractive about the cowboy, out there on the ranch 'getting the job done' all by himself, no help from anyone else (esp. the govnerment) doing tough manly work, working with his hands and not his mind. I'm sure that those images all appeal to the typical GOP voter, and maybe voters who hunger for what we perceive to be a simpler, frontier-type, time. Probably wouldn't work for Sarah Palin, but she has that Alaska small-town frontier thing going for her so there are similarities.

In the GOP mind, of course, it is 'big cities bad: crime, immigrants, minorities, danger'. They really do have this genuine exaggerated fear of urban areas. So this cowboy image is far removed from that.

5. GWB and Laura are moving to...
...an exclusive neighborhood in Dallas. So exclusive that they didn't allow blacks until the year 2000. He is also using federal tax dollars to build a security fence around the neighborhood to keep the public from accessing the neighborhood. That's his final "fuck you" to the American people.

6. A Cowboy No Longer?
Thanks for the update on the change of address for the post White House Bushes. I guess a lot of that cowboy brush clearing really was just for show.
