DC-Bound DUers: What are your plans for the Inauguration festivities?
We'll land in DC sometime on Saturday -- no tix to the "swearing in" but really looking forward to witnessing history first hand as best I can. There are only 300,000 spots available on the parade route. Gates open at 7:00 am for the 2:30 parade. No jumbotrons on the route. I think we'll squat on a grassy patch on the mall instead, where they'll have 20+ jumbotrons with the action.

I'm curious...if you're headed to DC, what are your plans? Are you working with an itinerary of things to do or are you just planning to "wing it"?

By the way, WaPo has a pretty handy reference page set up - http://voices.washingtonpost.com/inauguration-central/ Mobile alerts too...

Thanks for the thread.

Do you know if there's a DU meet-up planned? Monday would be good.

The Hark and the Dove is legendary. I expect it to be crazy packed and maybe only catering to VIP types.

EDIT: Looks like a Monday meet-up is in the works. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=148x3061

9. Not sure yet. But we will most certainly be there.
My daughter is actually leaving out of Union Station on AmTrak at about 3:30 though. (To catch a plane out of BWI) Since the parade doesn't start until 2PM and it seems to be a choice of seeing a Limo with Obama in it or seeing and hearing the inauguration on the Jumbotrons I may pick the mall. And being able to have a backpack would a huge plus.

We are still fluid though.

11. I'll be in the area but have no concrete plans. Just trying to Metro down that morning and be part
of the crowd, part of history.

12. We're thinking of heading down for the big concert on Sunday
I have no idea whether or not this is a good idea. We'd like to get a good spot which sounds like being there at 8:00 when they let people in and hanging around until 2:00 when the show starts. Can't bring in anything bigger than a loaf of bread and the temperature if it keeps it's current pattern should be somewhere in the 20s.

Sounds like fun.
