Where did O live when he was a Senator?
I got into a discussion with a co-worker about the Obamas being forced to stay at a hotel. He's a RW-nut, and claims that Obama had a house in DC, and that they should have stayed there. I don't recall hearing anything about where Barack lived in DC while he was in the Senate. Did he have a small apartment or something? I don't think that he would have flown home to Chicago every night.

3. He rented an apartment if I remember from the 60 minutes interview,
and it wasn't a nice one. I remember Michelle joking that she never slept there when she visited.

8. Not that he would have tried to cram his whole family
AND their permanent live in SS detail into an apartment.

That he hasn't been offered the use of the Blair House for this time period is a huge insult. Typical boorish Bush behavior.

Barack Obama’s Capitol Hill, Pre-Election Apartment

-snip-
But during last night’s 60 Minutes interview with Obama, host Steve Kroft not only brought up Obama’s old apartment, they showed a picture! I’m displeased to report there were no steps included in that photograph—another affront to my imagination.

But now there are a few more details to flesh out the vision: Obama said that his staff told him he was the only senator who lived in a worst apartment than his 25-year-old employees. Michelle Obama visited the place, but didn’t sleep there. When in D.C., she always stayed in a hotel with her husband. The one-bedroom unit had sort of the “vintage college dorm, pizza feel to it,” according to Obama, and it reminded Michelle of “a little better version of the apartment you had when we first started dated.” (This part starts around 4:45 in the clip.)

Also, in June 2007, Obama’s apartment building caught on fire.
He was not there at the time.

11. Michelle wasn't impressed with Obama's one bedroom apartment....
and said she never slept there....and said it like there were roaches are something living there.

It also caught fire.....

A small fire broke out Sunday in a Washington, D.C., apartment building where U.S. Sen. Barack Obama rents a unit, but the presidential hopeful was in Chicago with his family for Father's Day.
The blaze was not suspicious and "the senator's apartment wasn't affected,'' said Obama spokesman Ben LaBolt.

The fire began Sunday afternoon in the attic of another apartment in the building in Washington's Capitol Hill neighborhood.

It appears to be electrical in origin.

It may have been started by a ventilation fan in the other flat, said Alan Etter, public information officer for the D.C. Fire Department.

"They were using a ventilation fan in the attic area, a free-standing one, to keep the air circulating," he said.

No one was home at the time, Etter said.

... just for fun, tell your RW nut coworker that while Barack was serving in the US Senate, he actually commuted every day from Nairobi. It will be fun to watch your friend run around and panic. ;)
