Poll question: Most encouraging Obama cabinet pick
I'm not sure why so many are determined to focus on the negative. Who's your favorite cabinet pick so far? Feel free to explain your choice.

1. I picked Solis, even though I'm so happy with Chu!
Solis because she hasn't forgotten where she came from.

I think she will be outstanding as Labor Secretary!

:fistbump:

4. I also picked Solis.
A strong union supporter who works on environmental justice too. That's exactly the kind of perspective we need in the Labor department and she has a very liberal record. People who overlook her and claim there aren't liberals in the cabinet are being dishonest.

2. Solis and Chu both seem like solid picks
Don't really prefer one over the other, but I voted for Solis just to tie the poll.

3. Solis
Solid union cred, and a local icon I have had the good fortune to observe closely. I consider my expectations for Obama well-grounded in reality, so he has not disappointed me with any of his picks, but Solis was a choice he hit flat out of the park.

8. That's also
my biggest disappointment. I'd like to see Obama support sustainable ag policies.

Who's your favorite pick so far?

12. there are some
Solis, Chu, the new watchdog woman (whose name escapes me). Some of the new committee positions have me sort of going too. I think Kerry is going to be a house on fire. I'm looking forward to seeing Waxman on his new committee.

There's much to do and so I hope there won't be any foolish and distracting politics. Open and honest debate, yes. The old stuff is worn out.

11. Yes, they obviously hate him.
I did a google news and blog search about him. The only stuff I could find about him was Republican attacks. We have a situation where Republicans are attacking Obama's nominees...liberal blogs are attacking Obama's moderate and Republican nominees...who's left to speak up for Obama? This is just bizarre. It's like the left wants to destroy what little chance we have at getting something done.

13. No, AFAIK, it's all about Holder, the most important person that
might bring them down. It started when KK-arl suggested it because he's such a brain trust.

The security clearance Eric Holder will have will be out of this fuggin world. He will have access to basically anything he wants to know. And, on top of all of that, the man is very smart. When you combine smarts, a little bit of integrity, loyalty to Obama, and a social justice streak, you realize that Holder is considered too dangerous of a man to certain GOP interests to ascend to a very powerful UNELECTED position. The man is solely accountable to Obama. He's not really accountable to Congress because look at how they fugged up their oversight responsibilities over the Justice Department for the past eight years.

Certain members of the Intelligence community and even folks within Justice have got to be shaking in their boots because they have basically been allowed to go all willy nilly for the past eight years, obstruct justice, torture, illegally spy on Americans, develop illegal programs, and do whatever, whenever. Psychos like Yoo were allowed to develop cockamamie legal theories made to order for any conceivable illegal act the Administration wanted to make. People get used to that sort of thing. People must be terrified of the possible repercussions that MAY come. Some folks may be afraid that Holder won't "play ball" and continue with this "state's secrets" stuff to conceal illegal activity. Hell, he may even do the unthinkable and launch real and credible investigations into all of this.

That's why they need to take him down. They probably don't get the feeling Holder is one of the boys.

27. Most people don't know how important HUD is.
Despite it being a huge and sometimes clumsy bureaucracy, HUD's programs are a bulwark against poverty in this country, and have had a huge social impact over the last few decades.
