and the a-holes in the GOP, such as Eric Cantor, are saying that Obama is stroking the fear of joblessness among Americans. The fear is real and the economic meltdown under president Bush is real, too. Hopefully, all of us Democrats, support President Obama's maneuvers to improve the economy to bring much needed jobs back to our country.

1. I hadn't realize that 1945 had the greatest job losses until 2008. I wonder if they were counting
people getting discharged from the military as WWII ended. Surely it couldn't have been just civilian job losses caused by the ending of the industrial military production.

2. Lightbulb! How did we prevent Depression after WWII? GI-Bill. We need one for everyone.
Basically, the government financed returning GIs purchase of homes, subsidized higher education (GIs could attend school full-time and live modestly on the stipend provided), and handed out low-interest gov't backed small business loans.

That worked. We need to do something like that again - and, STOP THROWING TAXPAYER MONEY DOWN THE WALL STREET RATHOLE! That wasn't part of the GI Bill, as far as I can determine.

1982 -- 2,130,000
2001 -- 1,760,000
