Has anyone else gotten a "Presidential Inaugural Committee requests the honor of your presence"
thing? It's printed on heavy cream-colored paper and has some type of seal at the top.

Does anyone know if this is a real inauguration invite? Or is this just some come-on? I got a pamphlet with it asking me to buy commememorrative coins and plates, so I'm kind of skeptical.

If it is a real invite, could I have gotten it just by donating? Do all donors get this?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks.

3. Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
The supposed invitation has no ads at all, but there was a pamphlet that came with it for "The 56th Presidential Inaugural Collectibles." Oh well.

4. WTF? I got the "invitation" but I didn't get any ad for collectibles.
I kicked in a few bucks but certainly nothing outstanding.

I mean I didn't expect to be named ambassador to bumfuckistan or anything.

6. So are you saying this is a real invitation?
Seriously, I'm confused. It looks pretty fancy, but if it is real, what's up with the ad for Elvis-style Obama collectible plates?

The "invitation" does look exactly like this, and seems to be pretty high quality.

Maybe it is real? Or, if not, it's a pretty good scam.

13. Maybe you are invited, to a different function? Look at this...
http://www.free-press-release.com/news/200901/1231453589.html

It turns out Goldenberg does have a real Invitation to the Inauguration, but not to the one where the President-elect will take the Oath of Office.

Goldenberg was invited by the Presidential Inaugural Committee to be present at any of the “public events of the Inauguration.” Along with 300 million other invited Inaugural guests.

And there is this:::::http://www.dailykos.com/story/2009/1/8/145437/3401/733/681692

Today, when I opened the mailbox, there was a 8x10 ivory envelope, inside a beautiful gold-and
black embossed inauguration invitation to Barack H. Obama's inauguration. Granted it is only good,
for all public events.

What does that even mean, I can walk down the public street, or can I get near the National
Monument. I know it is just a way to try to raise more money, to pay for the inauguration. I mean they
printed a million of these things. But it still was pretty cool to get the beautuful invitation, even
if I won't be going to Washington D.C.

Really nice historical keepsake, for such a historic occasion. Thanks, team Obama! Oh, wait
that's us....

If yours doesn't sound like these examples, run it down to your local courthouse. They could probably verify it.

14. That second one's definitely it. Thanks for finding that.
Well, I guess it's semi-official anyway, so that's pretty cool.

10. It sounds like we got the same document
There were two papers in my envelope. First the 9x12 "invitation" you referred to with "Barack H. Obama" and Joseph R. Biden, Jr." in great big sort of script letters in the middle of the page.

And second a message from the "Presidential Inaugural Committee" that starts out "On January 20th, 2009, Americans of all backgrounds will..." and goes on to describe the events of the whole shitaroo.

I don't know if it's for real and I don't intend to even attempt to find out. I sure as hell wouldn't fly from CA to DC to get told it was just an ad and entitles me to basically nothing.

Now I'm pissed. I don't even get to buy some made in China crap.

11. That's a shame.
Looks like you won't be able to purchase the "super soft recycled cotton 69" square blanket woven with Inaugural Seal" for only $150.

8. Yep, but it's kind of a raffle like the one to meet Obama behind the scenes thing
It clearly says "could" not "would". I've gotten about three of them, but I'm not traveling to DC for the inauguration amidst the crowds. Uh-uh.
