Hilarious local news on AWB, re: why didn't Bush push ban?
"When asked by a reporter why he didn't push for the ban, Bush ignored the question and paid attention to (pause):

his ice cream.

1. Oh, just *too* funny.
That would be excellent footage to get to the Kerry campaign -- or Jon Stewart. (Sounds an awful lot like a TDS bit.)

Thanks for posting it. (Just wish I could get my hands on the video of it.)

2. It's interesting that Kerry is pushing it as an issue
Don't tell me Kerry doesn't have major league guts to do this.
He's doing it smartly, talking about the war on terror and protecting our cops.... etc.

5. Except that he was way off base on the AWB.
I support damn near all of his talking points, but he is either terribly misinformed about the 1994 AWB or was deliberately making false statements on the speech I watched earlier today.

The 1994 AWB banned not one single AW. IT did change the legal definition of many semi-automatic firearms from semi-auto to AW for the duration of the so-called ban. AW's are actually select fire weapons. Machine guns are not AW's.

This may bite us in the ass.

6. Right.
He's doing it smartly, talking about the war on terror and protecting our cops.... etc.

Which is only going to play well among the usual ignorant AWB supporters. People who have actually read the law are going to be saying "WTF is he talking about?"

7. Nearly every police department in the country wants stronger gun laws
I'd say, as a matter of principle, Kerry is on the right side of the arguement. I know the law is riddled with loopholes- thanks to the NRA- but overall the idea is right.

8. Sure they do.
Yes, the former ban being the most pathetic gun control law ever was all the NRA's fault. It had nothing to do with incompetent people who don't know anything about guns or the current gun laws writing gun control bills.

but overall the idea is right.

Overall the idea is moronic. Ban guns because they have bayonet lugs, pure genius. Someone got paid to write that, you know. What's worse is that they keep doing it. You should read the expanded AWB in the Senate, S. 1431. Instead of just coming out and saying they want to ban all semi-auto shotguns and almost every semi-auto rifle, they have to come up with these moronic definitions to replace the perfectly sensible definitions we already have. So instead of a page long bill that will never pass which bans all semi-autos by saying it bans semi-autos, we get pages of babble, that will probably never pass, which will ban semi-autos without actually saying that it bans semi-autos. Of course, the usual AWB supporters, who never bothered to read the first one, blindly support the expansion, which they haven't read either, while claiming that the people who support the expansion in Congress would never try and ban semi-autos that are just used for hunting and trap shooting.

Now just toss in some random penis references and accusations of NRA membership with a touch of demanding that people justify the need for things and you've basically got your standard gun control thread.

11. nearly every PD in the country wants racial profiling, too
does that make it right? :eyes:

Anyway, the Fraternal Order of Police has endorsed Bush. So if the AWB was so important to police safety, why would they do that?

9. NYC metro--not sure if it was NY or NJ
Hilarious nonetheless.

The reporter almost sounded like he couldn't believe it when he had to say "ice cream."

Let's hope Michael Moore gets his hands on it.

4. I saaw the TV clip of that. It was more conspicuous that just that!
As soon as those words came out of Shrubs mouth, Shrubs female aide (didn't see who she was) said "Ok, that's all for today, comeon Mr. president." and she ushered him off the stage.

I shouted at my TV (Again!!!) well, just isn't that too damn cute!

10. Bush is being led around by his aides?
"OK, that's all for today, come on Mr. President." and she ushered him off the stage."

WOW! I sure hope somebody has video of this incident. Here we have the President of the United States being led around like some senile old man! This ought to be put into a commercial, with some commentary such as "Do you want this man to be making life and death decisions for America?"
