Has any president in modern history ever taken over such a clusterfuck?
Has the deck ever been this loaded with this many major and/or potentially catastrophic situations both at home and abroad seeking resolution?

I'm not a religious man, but I do believe in the power of good intentions and focused well wishes (some call that prayer); Barack Obama needs every ounce of it as he steps on to the bridge of a ship which is currently in a hurricane.

We will debate the merits of some people he is choosing for his cabinet as not progressive enough, but even that seems small in consideration of President Elect Obama's task ahead. In my own way, I will be sending that man daily positive thinking for a safe and productive journey through his presidency.

We are living in very compelling times, and as gifted as Barack Obama is - he will need the collective good will of all of us to see that proverbial ship through the storm.

peace~:)

1. Clinton inherited a mess. Carter and Reagan both inherited messes. But nothing like this.
I'd say the last to really inherit a total clusterfuck like this were Hoover and then FDR.

2. Yes
FDR, Lincoln, Washington. Truth is, you wouldn't want to have been Truman.

6. FDR was the last one who had this big of a headache
though Clinton, Carter, Reagan all had a lot to deal with on the economy front
Truman had the cold war
Lincoln had the country coming apart at the seams
Irony of ironies...Shrub had a perfect setup. No deficit, world conflicts not as bad as they are now....and he still screwed it all up.

8. Thanks RiverStone,
We are in a bad situation for sure. I too, will be sending positive vibes and hoping for the very best. In my lifetime things have not been this bad.

At the end of the day his success is ours and I know I would like this country to become a better place for my boys and all the rest who have to be here when we're gone.

9. Washington, Lincln, & FDR were the nearest competitors, but
I give it to the present moment for general fucked-upness.

10. You know, even the lunatics at Free Republic have a Pray for Obama thread
It only gets about 5 replies, but it's there. :)

I am not traditionally in the habit of praying for world leaders, but if I was he'd be at the top of the list. I would NOT want to be in his shoes even now but especially not after Jan 20.
