Official Inauguration Poster Released By Obama Team

The Barack Obama Inaugural Committee is releasing an official inauguration poster playing off past themes and marking the history of January 20th in a uniquely Obama fashion.

Designed by famed street artist Shepard Fairey, the print, created especially for the 2009 Inauguration, boldly declares "BE THE CHANGE."

It is the next step in the branding of the presidency -- a development that is not unique to Obama but one that he has used better than any other politician in recent memory.

Fairey's initial design -- a guerrilla style, dark-colored portrait of the then-candidate -- proved to be a political and cultural phenomenon during the campaign. The current edition plays heavily off those themes and it seems likely to be a major symbol during the inauguration festivities. The image will be available on buttons, lapel pins, stickers and t-shirts.

The poster will officially be released tomorrow on the Inaugural Committee's online store.

3. More...

"I will be donating a chunk of the proceeds from an inauguration poster of Obama I was asked to create to the movement to overturn Prop 8. At first I was considering pulling my inauguration poster, but I think re-directing funds from it to put into a cause I care about is actually more constructive. Plus, I wouldn’t want withdrawing the image to come across as a blanket boycott of Obama. I’m sure I will ultimately disagree with Obama about many things, but I think I will agree with him on more. I think it is important to speak one’s mind, but also to not let the narcissism of petty differences sabotage our unity and progress."

9. He may have studied Freud
Freud called the rivalries that arise between say - small towns, or communities of people with little space or very minor cultural variations between them "the narcissism of minor differences."

Huge swaths of what Freud asserted turned out to be utter crap (women are inferior because their natures are slaves to a primordial narcissism) but I always found "the narcissism of minor differences" to be kind of humorous.

5. That is a great quote! And I am glad that he didn't let the Warren thing
keep him from putting that poster together.

4. It's UNBELIEVABLE How Many Items Are Being Produced... I Ordered
coins, buttons, plates and got ALL the magazines and papers available after the election. If this keeps up it will be hard to figure out which items have more worth in the future!

I "may" order the poster, but I think it will be my last item! I just can't afford everything being produced. Items regarding the election of the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT in America WILL be worth money in the future.... EVEN FOR REPUKES!!

I told my one and only repuke sister I ordered a coin set for her but she doesn't want it, sooooooooooooo I guess she's STILL stuck on stupid when it comes to politics! I LOVE her anyway, but we DON'T do politics! I thought I was doing her a favor, but I guess I give it to someone else!

Companies making Obama/Biden items are doing VERY WELL and raking in the BUCKS for sure!

6. lol, well, I wouldn't buy anything based on potential future value..
.... so someone else, but for the value it has to you now.

My Rolling Stone "A New Hope" cover that a coworker cut out and put in my locker last April .... and hung there until just a couples of weeks ago ... is priceless to me. Wouldn't trade it for all the money in the world.

10. Hey... I'm A Boomer & Have A Daughter & Son, Who Both Have Families...
I've collected political memorabilia since "forever" and have been given some from my father and my in-laws from waaaaaaaaaay back! I have copies of Life Magazines going back to WWII that THEY collected. Since I was introduced and became a political junkie at the early age of 11 I was the natural recipient of THEIR collections.

I will say they didn't collect like I do, but I do have some very interesting "old" political memorabilia. My plan right now is to keep the more recent collection to pass along to them, but am seriously thinking about "selling out" my older items. Haven't researched prices yet because the economy is so bad, but when it recovers I think I would like to cash in.

BTW, I also collected Rolling Stone magazines from '68 through the '70's. Stopped subscribing in the 80's, started back up in '92 and stopped in 2004. I "gave" them away to my ex son-in-law because we shared the same enthusiasm for Rolling Stone. My daughter divorced him, and it was for the best, but we were very close and I wanted him to have them. The divorce was amicable, but he was really hurt. We remain good friends to this day, as does my daughter and her husband. Her new husband is a FANTASTIC step-father to my grand-kids and we ALL get along to this day. She's been married to her new hubby for 10 years now.

We're ALL LIBERALS... we get along well! But I'm not sure how happy they'll be when I begin to "sell off," but they'll get enough to keep for their later years!

I've purchased a lot of stuff. Some to wear/use now, and some to put away as collectibles. Right along side my extensive Star Trek collection.
