That is what I am taking away from this press conference. They know they are going to seat him BUT they don't want to look like they caved.

3. Maybe they want him seated last,
so he has the least seniority.

I missed the press conference, what did they say?

4. that's NOT what I took away
from the press conference plus things I'd read in preceding days.

My take is they will have a short investigation to prove what they already believe -- that he was not in any way tainted by Blago.

The short term pain of this will protect him in the long run from msm and rw smears and lies.

6. That's how I intrepreted it too.
That they are working with Burris now to help him get seated without questions.

As much as I despise Reid, I agree with this decision - seat Burris, because this mess isn't worth fighting about. We need all 59 members of the Democratic Caucus right now - they've got a stimulus package to put together, and it's already taking too long.

I'd hope that Reid would figure out a way to save face so he doesn't look like he's been bitch-slapped again (along with our entire party by extension,) but I doubt he'll succeed.

9. Basically.
But the press conference made me believe that they are indeed doing the right thing by going through with the whole process. Hopefully this could all end in a few days.

10. Saving Harry's face
I was just going to post this same point.
This is all about saving his butt in public.
We all know that Burris could have been seated
yesterday without the Illinois Sec of State's
sig.
Harry needs to be replaced as Majority leader.
In fact, I'm tired of a lot of those old Dems.
Not investigating, prosecuting and indicting
Bush Inc. in the past 8 years is beyond the
law, justice and what they are paid to do under
the Constitution.

Move on Harry. We could use some change.
