Sen. Michael Bennet?
Seems like this might be a good choice:

After two full years of sweeping student-achievement reforms, Denver Public Schools recorded "historic" gains in the state's student assessment tests.

Denver posted the biggest increases in math and reading proficiency among the state's largest districts in this year's Colorado Student Assessment Program.

"What it means is we are heading in the right direction," said DPS Superintendent Michael Bennet. "We just have to keep working. We obviously have a very long way to go, but there is considerable reason for optimism."

1. Well...
If he's confirmed, Bennet will have to remember that he no longer holds sway over schoolchildren, but must now answer to a host of his equals on all sorts of issues important to Colorado as well as the Federal level. School's out...

3. I've met the guy and he's very impressive in person...
A very good speaker and networker. His short record as head of DPS is also very impressive.

As to his politics I have no idea but like you I can only hope that he's better than Salazar. What a disappointment as a Senator.

5. Makes Me Wonder
what Obama saw in Salazar to pick him. Salazar can't make a decision unless he joins a gang or two for some backup.

Still, thrilled that he's gone from the senate.

6. I wonder the same...
OK he's Hispanic. Big Whoop. That served him well when he nominated Gonzalez for AG. :sarcasm: It's also not a qualification for the DOI. He merits watching to see if he reverses the Bush environmental policy or is still a pal of Club For Growth and other pro-drilling think-tanks and the oil industry.

7. Obama probably just wanted him out of the Senate
Still surprised a safe Senator would be willing to leave the Senate to Sec of Interior. Thats a bigger surprise than Obama offering it to him.

4. I'm sure somebody as educated as he is, understands that this is a different job than

being the overseer of Denver schools. I'm glad that the Governor thought outside of the box and instead of appointing some career politician, appointed somebody who has made a fine record elsewhere.
