Prosecute Cheney or Legalize Marijuana?
Prosecute Cheney or Legalize Marijuana? Decide Today.

On December 15, Vice President Cheney admitted on national TV that he authorized torture, including waterboarding. That shocking confession makes Cheney a war criminal . But apart from Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow , the Corporate Media barely noticed.

Under the Geneva Conventions, the United States must prosecute Dick Cheney for war crimes. So we submitted this question to President-elect Obama at Change.gov:

"Will you appoint a Special Prosecutor - ideally Patrick Fitzgerald - to independently investigate the gravest crimes of the Bush Administration, including torture and warrantless wiretapping?"
-Bob Fertik, New York City

At the end of the first round on December 15, our Special Prosecutor question was #6 but Obama's team only answered the first five , including one on the legalization of marijuana.

The second round began on 12/30 and ends at midnight on 12/31. Once again, marijuana legalization is #1. We need your help to make our Special Prosecutor question #1!

1. Sign in at http://change.gov/openforquestions
2. Search for " Fitzgerald "
3. This will display several similar questions, so look carefully for "Bob Fertik"
4. Look right for the checkbox, mouseover it so it goes from white to dark, then click to cast your vote

1. Hmm, release hundreds of thousands of nonviolent, mostly minority offenders
Edited on Wed Dec-31-08 08:01 PM by cbc5g
create a billion dollar industry with thousands of new jobs...

Or prosecute Cheney who will die soon anyways...tough one

I say Obama should work for both but in all reality he will do neither

5. I wussed out
As much as I would like to see Cheney prosecuted, if they legalized marijuana, maybe I wouldn't care if they prosecuted him or not. On the other hand if they prosecuted him I'd still want them to legalize marijuana.

So after I voted for Bob Fertik's question I went and voted for the legalization questions too.

Sorry.

8. I received that as well and felt conflicted
I believe we have to start with the rule of law applying to the government and it's leaders as well as the rest of the citizens, or there will not be any true democracy left to work within.

It is one of the foundation stones that our nation was founded on, so I voted for accountability.
Unjust and destructive laws have no place here either, but it would appear the point has been made regarding that (at least in this arena).

In the end (regardless of my solicited input on both the first and second rounds) I will continue to work toward both issues (as well as several dozen other important issues) as tirelessly as possible using every opportunity to be heard or to provide action.

It is good that you posted this, I sometimes forget that not everyone receives these email invitations to be heard and so often I fail to post them.

10. I wish they at least didn't use the EXACT SAME DAMN QUESTIONS this time...
I do kind of think they should answer the top one or two in each category instead of overall.

That would make it a little harder for that "billion-dollar industry" pot question (and the other four from last time) to stay locked at the top of the list because of people going to that site specifically and only to vote up their one pet issue. The fact that a few of the questions answered last week are back up at the top of the various queues this week is kind of telling insofar as the submitters' willingness to actually read the site.

12. Legalize marijuana.
Statistically, Cheney doesn't have many tomorrows ahead of him anyway. Might as well make the world a better place and help the multitude of non-violent drug offenders who are jailed.

14. unfortunately they already answered it last time
It was one of the first 5 questions and they said Obama is against legalizing it.

Bummer. Liquor is so much worse.

15. That downsplays it just a tad.
You are aware that there are millions of non-violent marijuana users filling the nations jails? I would think that raises the issue to a slightly higher level of concern then whether to fart or chew gum. Color me revolutionary. ;)

16. Legalize pot, Cheney is going to die soon
You don't have four heart attacks and a history of heavy smoking and live forever. The man has had two serious pace maker incidents while vp and he shows signs of the swelling and poor health consistent with congestive heart failure.

Any trial would be a waste of money because Cheney would expire before the conclusion. The Milosiviech fiasco left a bad taste in people's mouth and another poorly run trial would actually be detrimental to future efforts.
