The Obamas will Move to DC this Weekend.
Question? Why does this make a little bit sad to hear? Weird.

Anyway....

PRESIDENT-ELECT

Obamas to move to D.C. this weekend

President-elect Barack Obama and his family will move to Washington this weekend and live in a hotel until Jan. 15, when they will move into the Blair House.

In the weeks after the election, Mr. Obama remained in Chicago reviewing potential administration hires, but a transition official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said he will come to Washington "to continue work on an economic-recovery plan."

Congress reconvenes next week, and Democratic leaders have said they want to begin work on a spending bill they say will stimulate the economy.

Mr. Obama's children will also be in Washington for the beginning of classes at Sidwell Friends School.

1. What an insult that they have to stay in a hotel.

2. Yeah, it's a huge insult to be living in the best 5 star hotel money can buy....
... Geez, get some perspective.

4. What's the big deal?
You are making it sound like they are going to live in a one room Holiday Inn Express.

Civilians are dying by the hundreds in Gaza, yet we are supposed to feel sorry for the Obama and his family that they have to live in a 5 star hotel?

7. I think the big deal is that the bushies refused to let the Obamas move into the Blair house early
so that their daughters could start in their new school on time. The bushies refused and now they are staying in a hotel

9. The big deal is they are not getting a very warm welcome from the
people who are vacating the White House. The Obamas wanted to move in Blair House but they were turned down because they wanted to come before Jan 15th to start the girls in school.

12. The point is that they asked to move into Blair House a little early...
...and that petty asshole squatting in the white house right now told them no.

THAT is the other poster's point.

20. Oh, get over yourself.
Yes, we're aware of the claim that it's occupied. We're also aware that the Obamas' request was a reasonable one, and that their being told "no" was characteristically classless on the part of the Bushes.

It's a small and petty thing, and an attitude that will be leaving DC with them on January 20th.

What will you find to complain about then.

And if you compare our posts, you'll find you complain here much, much more than I do.

22. Actually, the folks who take care of the residential part said it was not being used..
and that it had a separate private entrance etc. Another part of the building is being used for receptions for unspecified guests of the Bushes. So, they really are being petty!

23. So... what does that mean though? ...Can the Obamas still stay in a section of the Blair House..
.
.

Or should they just wait until Bush's secret visitor(s) depart? ~~~~

I can't wait until President Obama and family go to Camp David for a nice visit for the first time!

24. This was what I read, larissa, in a few different places..
The Blair House says that they are ready for the Obamas whenever -- if ever -- they choose to come, yet they have no idea when that will be. They also confirm that there are no other foreign dignitaries scheduled to stay at the Blair House for the duration of the Bush administration.

The president often hosts receptions on the first floor of the Blair House, however -- which may be why the White House was not comfortable with allowing the Obamas to move in when there were scheduled events.

But the Blair House describes the president-elect's residential quarters within the house as a separate area -- purposely designed to provide privacy from the rest of the house. Still, the White House insists that, regardless of the set-up, the dates are non-negotiable, as is tradition.

Underline added by me.

It's actually a very large structure, consisting of 100+ rooms because it is 4 townhouses joined together.

18. I don't think it's an insult at all
I don't think it was in bad taste to ask, and I don't think it was in bad taste to be turned down if the present administration had guests lined up.

What I do think was in bad taste was all the harping about it in the media as if the Obamas made some horrible faux pas. They did not!

10. I worry about Security at a Hotel

Too many people working there without a security check.
Visitors and registered quests at the Hotel could be a problem.
He needs Blair House

13. I suspect that the Secret Service will take care of security...
I mean, it is their primary focus...

I'm sure the hotel was chosen with security measures at the top of the list...

Still, I think the bushbots are doing a very bad thing by not letting the Obama family live in Blair House.

It's very ungracious of them.

16. I agree 100% Peggy
I was going to post something like I hope the whole Bush family suffers a catastrophic financial lose and has to live in a box on the side of a freeway, but that would just be mean. So I want post it.

14. He DOES need Blair House but....
.... hotels can be secured fairly easily. I've seen it done using security that looks like the Boy Scouts next to the Secret Service.

They'll be fine.

30. The Obamas should stay in the hotel until January 20. To hell with the Bush's petty crap
about the Blair House. Before they move into the White House, Obamas should call Stanley Steamer to clean the republican stench out of the place.
