civilrightsfront.com - Project Postcard and other organized activities
Below are some of the organized activities you can take part in to let PE Obama know that you strongly oppose Warren's participation at the inauguration and that you oppose propositions or amendments that put into law any discrimination against citizens because of sexual orientation.

stand up. speak out. stay strong.

Project Postcard

UPDATE: President-elect Obama has chosen Rick Warren (founder of the Saddleback Church and MAJOR proponent of Prop 8!) to give the inaugural invocation. That is not acceptable. We must tell him so. Here's what you do.

BUY A POSTCARD - It would be great if it had the name of your city or state on it, but feel free to get creative. Make your own, use one that you have around the house, or grab a free one at your local restaurant. Heck, why not get a bunch of different ones? The more, the better.

WRITE A MESSAGE - A unified message would be ideal. Let's keep it focused. I recommend something like this...

Dear President-elect Obama,

Rick Warren should not deliver the inaugural invocation. He is a proponent of legislation that is discriminatory towards the LGBT community. Please choose someone who will speak to all Americans.

SIGN YOUR NAME - There is nothing more powerful than that.

IMPORTANT - Since we've flooded the transition office, they no longer accept postcards. Our solution? Put the card in a #10 envelope and address it. Feel free to print out labels if you're going to send multiple cards. Here's the address...

President-elect Barack Obama
Presidential Transition Office
Kluczynski Federal Building
230 S. Dearborn St., 38th Floor
Chicago, IL 60604

Planned activities:

National DOMA Protest: January 10, 2009.

Now, on Saturday January 10th, 2009
We ask you to join us in making the LARGEST IMPACT YET!
Let's take our message all the way up the ladder to President Elect Barack Obama himself!

On January 10th, we will come together as one UNITED FRONT
asking the LGBTQ community to join us in signing an Open Letter to President Barack Obama, during a NATIONAL DOMA PROTEST.

This letter will remind President Elect Barack Obama of the promises he made to us.

It will also serve as a pledge from our community that we will hold him to his promises and help him achieve them.

We can’t just put a letter online and ask that people sign it.
We need to take to the streets. As we all know…
VISIBILITY IS THE KEY TO EQUALITY!
Outreach & Education Will End Discrimination.
We MUST Infiltrate, to Educate, and Stop Hate!

HERE’S WHAT YOU CAN DO:

* Find out who is organizing a DOMA Protest in your area. (Quick Link to State Page) If there isn't one, then volunteer to organize an event, or organize to collect signatures!
* Download the open letter (pdf) and take the streets to gain signatures.
* Get one million signatures (in total across the nation) by the end of the day on January 10th.
* Mail the collected signatures to the JTI clearinghouse address (to be posted soon)

Protest at Anti-Gay Pastor Rick Warren’s Church

Date: Sunday, January 18, 2009

Time: 11:00am - 2:00pm

Location: Saddleback Church in Lake Forest (southern Orange County) - 1 Saddleback Parkway, Lake Forest, CA

RSVP by emailing info@allornotatall.org or go to the Facebook page by clicking here.

more info @ http://www.allornotatall.org/

When Pastor Rick Warren steps up to the microphone to deliver the invocation at Barack Obama's inauguration as the 44th President of the United States, the world's television cameras will pan the surrounding dignitaries--Senators, members of Congress, diplomats--then they'll focus on the faces of the crowd, millions of Americans crammed together in the winter cold, straining to witness this historic event.

Here's what they'll see: pinned to the lapels of the overcoats of every man, woman and child that is willing to wear one will be a small white ribbon, tied into the shape of a knot. One, after another, after another, after another, these white knots will bear silent but eloquent testimony to a future America where marriage equality is a reality. These white knots will represent hope, just as Barack Obama does.

—David Bender, Politically Direct with David Bender on Air America

INAUGURATE EQUALITY
January 20, 2009

Whether you are attending the Inauguration of Barack Obama in Washington, D.C., attending an inaugural event elsewhere, or just watching the historic moment with family and friends, wear your White Knot.

Visibility in numbers is the goal. Together we can use the White Knot to show the world that denying anyone their civil rights is intolerable. To show the world just how many people support Marriage Equality and equal rights for everyone.

http://www.whiteknot.org/inauguration.html

Consider sending a whiteknot to the transition office at the address above. Consider sending a postcard (in an envelope) as encouraged above. Let the transition office's mail box overflow - let them know how you feel. Organize, do something to let your voices be heard.

please add other activities and suggestions.

3. I'm hoping we can get folks involved in more than
just debate - time to put our words into action - I know many have asked what they can do and I think sending a postcard (inside an envelope) to the transition office is a pretty easy way to let Obama know how I feel.

I'm thinking of the scene from Miracle on 34th Street where they bring in all the bags of mail addressed to Santa into the courtroom to prove that Santa exists.

Let's prove that civil rights matter.

It's my fault there were not more recommendations. I made the title too benign.

I should have titled the OP "STFU and DO SOMETHING ALREADY" - maybe even included PUMA and bigot in the title. :silly:

Hopefully some folks have seen the links and will be participating. All we can do is put the info out there.

thanks again.

Quick, simple, free, no paper, and sure to be taken notice of if many do the same.

edit: This was meant as an additional way to protest, not as a better way than those in the OP.

I don't want to unsubscribe because I do not believe this will be the last thing that I disagree with Obama on. I want to be able to ask the questions and blast him when necessary.

For others, your suggestion and example may be the method of communicating their disgust that works best for them.

thank you for posting and for letting Obama know how you feel.
