No more "rec this thread" threads PLEASE.. I urge the mods to lock them from now on...
This is a totally biased way to try to claim a mandate for a pet opinion. There is no real way to say NO and this clutters up the "greatest" section with a bunch of "rec this" threads instead of original opinion or anything interesting!

If you want to establish an opinion here on DU, CONDUCT A POLL!

:argh:

3. Agreed. It's like "Look at me!, Look at me!"
{eople should give recs because they believe in the posters opinion, not because of some rec beggars.

8. Agreed. The "recommended this thread if.." bit has jumped the shark
we have the option for posting polls, so let's use it!

10. If I get a mandate can I spend political capital?
Or, can I finally "get it" and post about Rev. Warren.

11. "Rec. this thread" is the poor man's poll.
You can not make polls unless you have donated money or alien technology to DU.

12. I don't like them either... However...
I would never ask for them to be banned.
Just because I don't like something... well, you get the idea.
I tend to just ignore them.
Not that difficult to do!

13. This was quite common during the primaries
especially trashing Hillary. And often in all CAPS.

As I pointed then: recommendations should be earned, not begged.

16. There is one flaw to that.
And that is how to distinguish between those that read the thread and choose not to recommend it, and those that have not read the thread at all.

A poll, which can give options to answer in both the affirmative and the negative, removes this limitation.

18. You can see the number of times a thread was visited.
I don't think it's productive to have an affirmative and negative vote, personally.

17. Respectfully disagree.
Though I rarely read that type of OP, I hope the moderators do not take a rigid, lock-all approach.
