Poll question: Should we let Pelosi/Reid put repeal of DADT off the table (after 2010 midterms)?

Dems Say It'll Be Two Years Before They Take Up 'Don't Ask, Don't Tell'

Repeal of DADT will have a significant positive impact in fighting Global War on Terror (GWOT)

Many gay and lesbian military intelligence and linguists, critical skills needed in GWOT, have been discharged to keep the fundies and their enablers happy while putting our nation at risk. Obama PROMISED to repeal DADT! He has now broken his promise by saying that his administration won't even discuss the matter until at least 2010 (I assume to milk more money from LGBT community for the midterm elections). The Warren invocation was a slap in the face to all LGBT Americans. The DADT postponement is a BOHICA without lubrication to all LGBT Americans, particularly to those serving in uniform.

We let Pelosi put impeachment off the table, with tragic consequences for our country. Repeal of DADT has strong bipartisan support across the country, despite opposition to repeal by the likes of James Dobson and his disciple Rick Warren.

The question for you is this: Should we let Pelosi/Reid put repeal of DADT off the table until after the midterm elections?

2. This vet says keep the pressure on.
There's no reason for them to take "ending discrimination" off the table. They can't even argue that it's necessary for political capital - the public supports ending the policy. Even veterans are split evenly on the issue. There is never going to be a "better" time, there's no justification for saying "we will support bigoted policies for just two more years."

The ONLY reason I can see for waiting til midterm elections is that we have a chance of losing the house or senate, and then they can throw their hands up and say "no point in even trying, it'll get voted down." I don't believe they have any intention or interest in ending discrimination toward gays and lesbians in the military.

3. I prefer the executive order approach

Regardless of what the law says, Obama can end the ban with the stroke of a pen. The Constitution makes him the Commander in Cheif, the top dog, the decider and the Commander Guy of the military. He can end the ban without having to go to those plodding, paper pushing pinheads in Congress.

5. Congress passed DADT legislation after Clinton failed to use executive order
like Truman did in integrating armed forces. The President cannot enact laws, or ignore them like Bush has.

It takes an act of Congress to repeal DADT, and that means public hearings which will play a key role in changing public attitudes about LGBTs serving in uniform openly, as they do in Israel.

6. Nice try at push polling
Unfortunately for the LGBT community, there are far bigger problems that need to be dealt with. (i.e. the economy, jobs, basically fixing the trainwreck Chimpy's leaves behind.)

7. And national security comes last in your book? Nice!
GWOT is part of Bush's train wreck.

It is not push polling when the facts, as stated are correct.

DADT is a witchhunt of gays and lesbians, my civilian friend. Women have been coerced into having sex by being told that if they didn't submit, they would be reported as being lesbians (this has happened many times, to hetero women no less).

8. Obama said his admin won't even discuss the matter? When
did he say that and can someone provide a link? In the article referenced, I see that house and Senate members said they will delay it, but I don't see a quote from Obama. Thanks in advance!

9. There was the LBN thread quoting Senator Levin
talking about postponing repeal of DADT, this shortly after Obama went of vacation.

11. The oppressed can never rely on the good graces of the oppressor for justice
Yes, we are going to make pests out of ourselves and push Nancy "Impeachment if Off the Table" Pelosi to do what she doesn't want to do.

15. They don't get a dime from Palestinians, that much is obvious!
And they seem more interested in the well being of bankers, financiers, and market speculators, than they are about auto workers and related industries.
