8. Bargain back down to the current status quo.
Israel could 'give' without really giving anything. Interesting. You may very well be right.

7. Reports are coming in that they're amassing ground troops.
At least that was a quick statement I caught on the news on TV.

9. They may go in with ground troops.
The air strikes hit every single police, military and security building in Gaza. It was a way to clear the way for the ground troops.

In regards to the OP, when Israel retreated from Hezbollah, I think the lesson they learned was to keep going.

11. Imho, the attacks by Israel are an attempt to keep the Likud Party from regaining control, again.
Edited on Sat Dec-27-08 10:18 PM by w4rma

Positions on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian dispute have grown polarized. The radical Palestinian group Hamas, which was targeted by Israel's attacks Saturday, controls Gaza, while on the Israeli side, the right-wing Likud party headed by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu leads in most polls heading into February elections. Mr. Netanyahu has promised to take a much harder line against Palestinian and Lebanese militants.

This is troubling. The Likud Party is on the cusp of regaining power in Israel.

12. Likud would mean all out war (not that this isn't bad enough)
good analysis, I didn't think of it that way.

13. No. Gaza will be a turkey shoot compared to Lebanon.

14. Either would be an easy fight if you didn't mind killing everyone
But if you don't want to do that and have to go door to door, this will be no turkey shoot. It will be bad.
