Fran-KEN! Fran-KEN! Fran-KEN! Fran-KEN!

Looks like it's gonna be Sen. Franken (D-MN). Not a 100% yet. But the state Supreme Court just put the kibosh on Coleman's last credible legal angle.

Bye, Norm.

27. Well, Franken can't really boast about his "drug free" past, either...
He's admitted to LOTS and LOTS of drug use while writing for SNL...

Coleman's a scumbag... no need to make fun of his high school hairdo

26. I doubt a republican gets elected in IL
Pretty much (except Maine) the only places the GOP held onto seats in the 2008 senate elections were in the south or the sparsely populated north & midwest (Idaho, Wyoming, Kansas, etc).

Illinois, even if there is a special election, will see another democrat.

8. last night on Countdown they were talking about this........
...and when they spoke about Coleman, they said he had been making statements like he was pretty sure he was going to win...yeah, right! What else is he going to say?

And they also said he made a statement that even if he doesn't win, he will still find something else. The way they phrased it, it struck me that he was sounding like he had already lost!!

11. More on the Supreme Court decision...
Court denies Coleman request on duplicate ballots

The justices said the Coleman claim that some ballots may have been double-counted would be better resolved in a separate court action than by the state Canvassing Board.

By PAT DOYLE, Star Tribune

Last update: December 24, 2008 - 2:10 PM

The Minnesota Supreme Court today denied a bid by Republican Sen. Norm Coleman to force the state Canvassing Board to consider his campaign’s claim that some votes in strongholds of Democrat Al Franken were counted twice.

The court said the Coleman campaign’s challenges of ballots that it believes were double-counted are better resolved in a court hearing where evidence can be presented, rather than by the Canvassing Board.

In doing so, the court allowed those ballots to be counted, at least for now.

In other words while this ruling was a blow to Coleman's chances, it will be going back to court again. I still think Franken will win, but this is going to drag out for quite a while. So far I have yet to see any evidence that these ballots Coleman is challenging actually were counted twice, and unless Coleman can find absolute proof that they were counted twice I don't see any judge throwing them out. It seems as if after a hand recount of all 2.9 million ballots they could have come up with something, but they failed to do so and that makes me think that these were properly counted.

12. Don't rush to be premature.....
We don't know what other challenges face us. While the MN Supreme Court decision is favorable to us, we need to realize this is still an uphill battle. Coleman, a neo-Nazi, corporatist isn't going to give up easily. His backers will kill and steal to maintain this seat so they can continue to rape, pillage and plunder the American worker. We need to stay focused and make sure that Franken actually makes it to his swearing in and can serve as force for good and justice in the U.S. Senate.

I am friends with tons of secular Jews who celebrate Christmas as a secular holiday.
In fact, a few of my less secular Jewish friends also put up a tree and whatnot, for what it's worth.

30. Knock on wood!
The only thing left is counting those improperly rejected absentee ballots (notice that Coleman now wants them counted because they're his last hope, but back when he was ahead, he was fighting against counting them...) Chances are good that those ballots will come out in Franken's favor.
