Do you want to know what I resent?
My gay friends and my straight friends being angry at each other, when there's a chance to change this situation.

So instead of bemoaning it, from both sides, we should make it viable for everyone. Who would dispute that?

Sigh. I could find threads to back me up, but I'm tired. I like the idea of talking, diplomacy.

2. On paper, it's great...
...the concern is that people like Rick Warren are parasites. He really, really, really is the "new Jerry Falwell." It is as if Falwell died and all of his evil genes scampered out of his corpse and said howdy to their new host body, Rick Warren.

The problem with people like Warren is that you can never give them enough. There is never enough. He's talking a game that I don;t believe he intends to play.

And as I've said in many other threads, I'm straight. My opposition to Warren is based on the fact that I think he's a snake oil salesman, a carnival barker who wrote a crap book and posted "40 Days of Purpose" on a truckload of crap merchandise. As a Christian, I get a little sick and tired of constantly distancing myself from this pig.

So yes, let's wait and see. And if this becomes a game of "Who's your daddy," I am expecting Obama to kick Warren to the curb.

Warren is looking at 4 years in the high-profile media spotlight if he can only dangle the right carrot in front of Obama. So far, Warren is the winner. We need to see what Obama gets in return.

:patriot:

18. Those protesting Warren are giving him a lot more publicity
If we'd just ignore him, the fat fuck would be a mere blip on the radar. But all this news coverage is just giving him lots of publicity, so that like-minded neanderthals can become aware of him and join him. :grr:

4. except we have plenty of straight allies on the "gay" side
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 01:45 AM by jonnyblitz
it's not gay vs straight. its people who complain and want to take a stand somehow against the Warren decision vs Obama apologists who beg to differ. PLUS there are gays who prefer to side with the Obama apologists. A good many DUers arguing along side the gays are straight, believe it or not.

27. Same here....
...I see no different in opinion based on sexual orientation as concerns that POS Rick Warren.

Why in the world would straights and gays be on different sides concerning some POS like Warren?

17. Agreed! Not by any means is this just a "Gay" problem, it's all progressive and forward thinking
people's problem - and many respected people that I love, who are straight, are standing up AGAINST Warren being hand picked for this honor - when there's nothing to honor Warren for - and that encourages me & my GLBT brothers & sisters to not give up for having hope that things will change if we keep fighting.

19. I am finding this confusing
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 03:29 AM by loyalsister
I feel like I have been indirectly told that I have chosen a side that I do not agree with when I most certainly do not. Other DUers may feel that way as well.
There are a lot of assumptions and generalizations flying. The word "ALL" is often a mistake in these conversations.
I have wondered and wished if in the interest of fairness and sanity in argument that we could communicate with more civility. But, I have a feeling that is a pipe dream.

26. Want to know what I resent?
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 06:51 AM by zeemike
After working for eight fucking years donating money I could not really afford to democrats and DU to get rid of this fascist administration to see melt down at DU over a fundy preacher making a 3 minute speech.
You could not get a dozen people to feel outrage over people being kicked out of their homes or old people eating cat food to afford the medicine that keeps them from croaking, but Warren is paramount in our concern.
And I resent being told that I am a bigot, homophobe, repuke troll because I point out that real chang will not happen until new people are appointed to the Supreme Cort and justice department and legislation is passed in the congress and that Obama may just be trying to smoth the way by allowing the right wing to speak.

But fuck it, I am 65 and I have probably at most 20 years or so left and it is you younger peoples world and welcome to it.
I am tired of the fighting and tired of trying to tell people that don't want to know what I think.

31. Divide and conquer. The Atwater/Rovian mantra has been to divide this country
to the point that marginalized groups are at each other's throats. They are doing it now with gays v. blacks. In the past, it was blacks v. Jews; blacks v. poor whites; blacks v. Koreans; blacks v. Latinos. Gay is the new black. Gays/lesbians are now the most dispensable group now.
