he is dead to me now
thats right
santa claus is now dead to me
i held firm in 62 when i DID NOT get the bike he swore to me i would get
i was ok in 68 when the official batman set with cowl utility belt and batarangs DID NOT show even after he assured me it would
or in 70 when again i stood awash with disappointment if front of a mocking tree to find NO led zepplin albums
i just figured i was naughty even though he SAID i was nice
lying bastard!
so i stopped seeing him
but then i had kids and they wanted to see him
well i knew my kids were good not an ounce of naughty
so off we go and he tells them "oh you will get that your good little boys and girls"
christmas morning....NOT A DAMN THING AGAIN!!!
after that i said screw this im just going to get the damn stuff myself and let the kids think santa did it
so i have done this ever since but now im heading into grandparent age and i havent told my kids yet
am i obligated to keep covering for this cold weather con man?
damn you santa!

let me add equal rights are equal rights
so long as one of us is without freedom all of us are enslaved

9. I am sooooo pleased that he didn't wind up in Wasilla....
I'm glad he's doing this work, too...

I was afraid he'd be an investment banker.

(Pretty sweet sentiment ya got going there, Swampg8r. don't blow your cover. Or mine).

:hi:

3. Your parents never told you this? There is no santa
you are santa...

It is kind of the best kept secret among adults, though Jewish Kids get the news as early as they can talk and chiefly understand

Yes, I broke the secret to my four year old Nephew this year... no santa, no rudolph... and enjoy the Chanukah lights

6. My 7 year old daughter has been making a list of what she wants for Christmas.
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 12:41 AM by Pirate Smile
She gave it to me to send to Santa. I'd been checking it out for a while and found it mostly illegible. I asked her to read me her list. She started to - and then couldn't figure out what in the world she had written so she said "Santa can read it, he always gets me exactly what I want, every year! Just send it to Santa."

Pride in what an AWESOME Santa I've been made me feel great, followed by TERROR because Santa is going to SUCK this year.

But, have no fear, google is Santa's friend and I managed to decipher enough things on the list that Santa's awesomeness will continue - for at least, one more Christmas.

Ho Ho Ho!

10. I know. Her statement was my favorite Christmas present ever!
It makes all the shopping, wrapping, hiding worth it. It wont last much longer. She is the baby of my three kids. The other two are 9 and 11.

15. Don't worry, your older kids will tell her when the time is right
And then they'll tell her not to let you know because it'll be too shocking for you to find out.

11. Ho, ho, ho indeed
I got to play Santa... a couple times

As a medic with the Red Cross in Tijuana... one year Santa (or rather the crew) brought dinner with the fixings to a family who had nothing. The parents told the kids it was Santa, and that Santa was early... kind of blushed when they asked us to share some coffee with them

The second was toys for the kids at a shelter after a rainstorm... ok we were not Santa, just the three mages

Nothing like seeing kids eyes lit up.

That is the magic... but the true spirit is not in the stuff... but in the sense of community. I guess that now that consumerism might be dying, that will come back. That is also what I love about Hanukah, a family holiday... but all the holidays, we treat them that way

Perhaps it is life experience, I don't know, but having seen people who truly didn't have a thing to their name I cherish what we have, and family, chiefly family

4. Get back, Jack!!!
This may be one of the coolest shorts I have ever read.

I hope you don't mind if I send this all over the planet.

If you do mind, too bad. I'm doing it, anyway.

Merry Christmas.

Tom

12. You have only enabled Santa all these years
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 09:13 AM by Gman
Do not cover up for Santa that would be more enabling. Santa needs to fall on his own as he will never get better until he falls and begins the process to fix himself. You cannot fix Santa. Only Santa can do that.

13. swamp, I don't know how to tell you this, but...
Santa Claus was shot down over Vietnam in '70. The sleigh went down like a fiery Comet in the guerrilla-teeming jungles.

They found his forearm, hand still clutching a copy of Led Zeppelin II in his fuzzy black glove.

16. Swampg8r,your wrong.
Edited on Mon Dec-22-08 09:47 AM by verges
You have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. You do not believe except you see. You think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by your little minds. All minds, Swampg8r, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours man is a mere insect, an ant, in his intellect, as compared with the boundless world about him, as measured by the intelligence capable of grasping the whole of truth and knowledge.

Yes, Swampg8r, there is a Santa Claus. He exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no Santa Claus. It would be as dreary as if there were no Swampg8rs. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.

Not believe in Santa Claus! You might as well not believe in fairies! You might get your papa to hire men to watch in all the chimneys on Christmas Eve to catch Santa Claus, but even if they did not see Santa Claus coming down, what would that prove? Nobody sees Santa Claus, but that is no sign that there is no Santa Claus. The most real things in the world are those that neither children nor men can see. Did you ever see fairies dancing on the lawn? Of course not, but that's no proof that they are not there. Nobody can conceive or imagine all the wonders there are unseen and unseeable in the world.

You may tear apart the baby's rattle and see what makes the noise inside, but there is a veil covering the unseen world which not the strongest man, nor even the united strength of all the strongest men that ever lived, could tear apart. Only faith, fancy, poetry, love, romance, can push aside that curtain and view and picture the supernal beauty and glory beyond. Is it all real? Ah, Swampg8r, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

No Santa Claus! Thank God! he lives, and he lives forever. A thousand years from now, Swampg8r, nay, ten times ten thousand years from now, he will continue to make glad the heart of childhood.

17. Ho-ho-ho!
Nice post. Glad I stopped in - Last night I told myself that I didn't want to visit DU till after inauguration... It has become more contentious than usual.

My kids are 8 and 9 and still believe in the jolly old elf with the red suit. He gets all the credit, I get to do all the work. It's a good thing Santa has a high-tech elf division that churns out high end computers, PS3's and video cameras - My kids are way more into electronics than the wooden trains and Barbie Dolls of my youth. It's a good thing that I am as into all that stuff as my kids.. (shhhh... don't tell, okay? - I got myself a game for the PS3 that will be under the tree this Thursday morning - this old lady is a gaming freak.....)

I had a pony when I was a kid - I grew up in a rural area - I got a horse and got to play cowboys and indians - no one ever got shot or died for real but we did work up a powerful hunger for peanut butter and jam sandwiches and soda-pops!

Merry Christmas.... :)

Obviously, what is important in your post is:

let me add equal rights are equal rights
so long as one of us is without freedom all of us are enslaved

And, I agree, and also highly salute your presentation of this important fact.
