How about a female Episcopalian bishop (Katharine Jefferts Schori) instead of...
that fucking fundie Warren? (I lifted the following from Wiki.)

--Bachelor of Science in biology from Stanford University in 1974
--Master of Science in oceanography in 1977
--Ph.D. in 1983, also in oceanography, from Oregon State University
--Master of Divinity in 1994, and was ordained priest that year.
--Speaks Spanish fluently.
--Is an instrument-rated pilot.
--Married to an Oregon State professor of topology.
--Daughter who is second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force.
--First woman Primate in the worldwide Anglican Communion, and the 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church.

Jefferts Schori voted to consent to the election of Gene Robinson, an openly gay and partnered man, as Bishop of New Hampshire in 2003, to which some conservative Episcopalians have objected strenuously. As not all churches in the Anglican Communion uphold the ordination of women, the election of a female bishop as primate has also proved controversial in other provinces.

At a news conference on 18 June 2006, the Presiding Bishop-elect articulated a willingness to work with conservatives. She expressed her hope to lead the church in the reign of God, rooted in imagery from Isaiah and including such United Nations Millennium Development Goals as eradicating poverty and hunger: "The poor are fed, the Good News is preached, those who are ostracized and in prison are set free, the blind receive sight."

4. I kept seeing "who else should Obama have chosen" posts...
and started to think about it. Rev. Lowery is a stellar choice, but fucking Warren?

And I'm sorry Odetta isn't alive to perform. :-(

8. omg
I had no idea Odetta had died. That is incredibly sad news.

Back in the early 80's I was an airline ticket agent at LAX and had the pleasure of checking her in for her flight. We weren't supposed to gush over people but this was Odetta so of course I did. She couldn't have been nicer or more gracious, even though I was a goofy kid who was probably the only person in my age group who'd heard of her.

Damn.

15. Thanks, I thought so...
but there's really nowhere to go but UP after the Warren choice. Ugh. Well, perhaps Palin's speaking-in-tongues pastor would have been a worse choice...

13. In that case, let's go with "openly gay, non-celibate" bishop Gene Robinson.
I'm all for fundie heads exploding.
