People are really taking the Rick Warren thing to far...
Why can't some people just be happy we have a real leader someone who we can be proud of???
Maybe some of us need to take time out to ask....how things would be going if McSame were taking office.

31. I think some of the posts are from people who could care less about
equal rights for GLBT's members and people of this country. They are enjoying the fact that people are upset and instead of showing genuine anger at this pick they are doing their best to be divisive and cause more upset than is already here. I wish I had bookmarked the thread but last night I ran into an ass that I hope has since been banned saying blacks and gays should work together but blacks and gays hate each other. I'm like wtf? How is that constructive?

18. If McSame were taking office, it's likely we'd be completely shut out of the process...
...and the festivities.

I'd like that think that giving the right some small place at the table during the festivities might go along way to ending some of the vitriol of the last few years.

It's human nature to want to shut out your political opponents after a victory, that's what they did to us, after all.

I don't want to go with that path. I think we are better people than that.

Do you guys break up with your significant other every time there is a fight too? Is that what people are afraid of mommy and daddy are going to break up because they are fighting?

77. Jake, it is becoming Ahab-like.
All that most maddens and torments; all that stirs up the lees of things; all truth with malice in it; all that cracks the sinews and cakes the brain; all the subtle demonisms of life and thought; all evil, to crazy Ahab, were visibly personified, and made practically assailable in Moby Dick. He piled upon the whale's white hump the sum of all the general rage and hate felt by his whole race from Adam down; and then, as if his chest had been a mortar, he burst his hot heart's shell upon it.

It's become a matter of ego rather than of one of accomplishment. We have the anger and the passion, aren't there more important things to us than this?

In the end, if we were to force President-Elect Obama's hand on this matter, what is the prize?

101. It's not 'just a prayer'... it's giving the podium, and the attention of the nation,
to someone who adamantly condemns us, and doing so on the single most historic day in American politics in the last century, if not at all.

Damn right we're pissed, and rightfully so. This sets the tone for what is to come, and that tone rings as a sour note to the GLBT community and our families and other allies.

Jesus christ I'm insulted right now and I'm not gay.

70. WTF does this has to do with Warren being chosen. Warren is not for civil unions.
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 09:05 PM by Mass
He thinks that gay people are like child molesters and that women who had an abortion took part in an holocaust. I sure hope these are not opinions that Obama or Clinton hold.

57. No, you clearly don't...
This is a CIVIL RIGHTS ISSUE. Period. Rick Warren has been ACTIVELY CAMPAIGNING for a law which REMOVES the right for those who have been LAWFULLY MARRIED to REMAIN LAWFULLY MARRIED.

And, no, I'm not Gay. I'm afraid I do not have that honor...

55. Well, depends. Say you are black. Say you are married to a white man.
Say the state you live in took a vote and decided black and white people cannot be married anymore. Then the President, who's supposed to be a Democrat, decides to bring along the Pastor who advocated for your marriage to unlawful.. called your marriage an aborration, called your marriage something akin to pedophilia. Now, the same Proponents of that law decided to retroactivate the marriages that transpired while black/ white marriage was legal. Does it seem like too much.

Gay people are not asking for Rick Warren to acknowledge them or marry them, they are asking for equal rights and protection that the state/ fed. govt gives to two people who want to enter into a contractual marriage. The state uses the word marriage for these rights.. Marriage Certificate. Either change the contract at the court house for all couples who wish to be "married" or allow for gay people to have a marriage certificate. Its about equality. What's too much?

86. Nope. Not playing the silly game of what ifs. The Reality is simple.
Civil rights reached two milestones on Nov 4.

First African-American voted as President
First major stripping of civil rights for part of the population.

Rick Warren was against the former and for the latter.

Rick Warren is a threat to society.

94. Oh, an awful lot of people are just begging for excuses to bash Obama.
They had nothing to say when their own favorite politician went to Saddleback and rubbed elbows with Warren.

Or had any complaints when Bill Clinton had a bigot preacher give his invocation at the 1993 and 1997 inaugurals.

A few weeks ago there was an angry thread about Chavez alledgely being a homophobic bigot. The whole story turned out to be false, but a lot of people jumped on it for the sole purpose of bashing Chavez. It was pretty clear they didn't really care about GBLT and just wanted to exploit it to their own ends.

Much of the same is occuring here.

100. A real leader is only what the real leader does.
If the real leader is throwing people to the dogs, tossing people under the bus and honoring bigots then he's not a real leader.

Is this what we supported? Is this what we pushed for throughout the entire campaign? Is this what you were hoping for and waiting for?

108. You might as well say "let's lay off the birth certificate" on FR.
People here want to be very, very upset and outraged about Warren, and that's what they're going to be, period. Asking them to stop only produces flamefests, as you see. It's the same thing that happened with the PUMA types during the primaries. Hillary as SOS produced another flareup of annoying flame threads.

I have to say, this board is becoming a bit of a chore to read. I think it's at its best before an election. Now that we've won, most of us have nothing to say any more, so we bash Obama over every tiny thing. (I know, I know, the Warren thing is not "tiny" to everyone, but it sure is to me.)
