I attended services at Warren's church last weekend. Warren's brother in law officiated the service which was typical of a mega church service. You are given a two sided paper with a three or four point outline of the service upon entry. Each major point always has a blank to be filled in. For example:
Democratic Underground posts on Warren are ______.
So the Pastor goes through the sermon which is about how Jesus needs to be the center/focus of peoples lives and he is using visuals to drive home his "fill in" points. They were really cheesy, for example for strength they used pictures of the Russian Army, Space Shuttle, Weightlifters, Ronald Reagan, and then said a few lines about strength through Jesus.
So the final point was Hope, and of course the used a picture of Obama, but not just any picture, but a photo shopped picture of Obama as a Superhero that was right at the end of a montage immediately preceded by a shot of a seated, contemplating, John McCain. So they get there laughter and Warren's bro in law says "that's not hope...."
I am confident that Saddleback didn't run similar messages in 2000 and 2004, and understand that Obama is trying to reach out, but I really don't understand what he thinks will be accomplished by including Warren and his follows in the efforts to impact change.
