Not it's more important than Obama's oath of office.

The Warren choice is bitterly disappointing to me, but he'll be booed and gone in 2 minutes. Solis will effect real change in the Labor Department. :woohoo:

9. The level of hatred and immaturity on DU the last few days is just so disappointing.
This is what we are reduced to? focusing on one issue and trashing the first opportunity this country has had for reform in decades?

Some of you are no better than the right wing ideologues on the other side!

and yes, i know about Hilda Solis. great. but it's still wrong to reward a bigot with a place of honor in the inaugural, only enforcing the idea that bigotry is okay.

10. Bill Clinton tried to allow openly gay people to serve
That was in 1993.
It failed, but he did try.

As to your post...Will Obama spend a lot of political capital on this issue if it starts to go south on him?

Gays in the Military (and I was in the service in 1993) was a hot-button issue in the service.
Clinton did use a lot of political capital on it and it damaged the early stages of his presidency.
But at least he made the effort

The strongest post I've seen on the subject said he might be enabling homophobes, which is just a statement of fact. And your post is hardly calculated to settle the tone, if that was your purpose.

13. While that's good to know
It's expected that a Labor secretary would uphold Democratic values, as being pro-labor IS a Democratic value.

However, so is supporting sustainable family farming, and growing healthy food, not Frankenstein-mutated crap and high fructose corn poison. Which can we expect from Vilsack?

Ray LaHood has supported the right wing agenda straight down the line. Is he really going to be supportive of 21st century transportation solutions, or will he be content with "hybrid" Escalades driving on highways privatized to Halliburton?

How do Robert Gates and Hillary "Obliteration" Clinton send the message to the rest of the world that we REJECT the neonazi foreign policy of PNAC?

Rick Warren is not THE problem. He's the symptom of a much larger problem.

Give Obama a chance.

Look at all he has fought against to get to the place he is. His life has been on the line and will be throughout his presidency.

This country is in serious trouble and a short piece spoken by a perceived enemy is small compared to what is ahead of us. Your time will come, but put it in perspective.

Jeez!

34. I am straight, yes. I am elderly and have seen a lot in my lifetime.
I am also accepting of those around me. I also know this world does not revolve around me. I also believe in live and let live. I also believe that there are many who are wrong to feel the way they do about gays and Lesbians, and I hate it when I see prejudice. BUT, we all have to learn to live and work together. AND, for your information, I do not like or approve of mega-evangelists. I have friends and relatives who are gay/Lesbian. Are you saying I have to change my sexual preference to be accepted by gays and Lesbians? Then you'd better tell my friends and relatives to stand clear of me. I'm poison in your book.

How sad.

37. No, I did not say you have to change your sexual preference.
I am saying that since it appears to be fine and "live and let live" that a gay-hating, homophobic, H8-filled minister offer the Inaugural invocation, perhaps it's OK to have a straight-hatin', heterophobic gay minister offer the benediction. I mean after all, good for the goose...

And I ask if you were straight, because too many straight people just don't get it. We GLBT persons are HATED, BEATEN, RAPED, ABUSED and KILLED because of our sexual orientation that we did not choose nor can we change. To GLBT persons, INVITING a homophobic, gay-hating minister to lead a prayer at Obama's Inauguration is tantamount to inviting the KKK Grand Dragon to lead the prayer, and just as insulting.
