So in the news today,
1. Al Franken has taken the lead for Wellstone's Senate seat.
2. Democrats have successfully pressured the Bush administration into passing an auto bailout without the union-busting provisions Senate Republicans demanded.
3. Obama is considering Bill White, who would be the first openly-gay chief of a branch of the military, as Secretary of the Navy.

And DU is still obsessing over some jackass who's going to say a prayer?

26. 5. & 6.
5. The Clinton Foundation is apparently deeply beholden to the Saudi Royal Family, among others.

6. Bristol Palin's future MIL got popped for running a meth lab.

28. To be fair
I don't think Bristol Palin's future MIL was running a meth lab. From what I've read is she was charged with second-degree misconduct involving a controlled substance, which is normally for manufacturing and delivering drugs, and fourth-degree misconduct involving possession of controlled substances.

If she had a meth lab we would have heard about a hazmat or similar team cleaning out dangerous chemicals etc. Most likely she was clipped for delivering drugs and not manufacturing.

But it is pretty bizarre either way.

3. I listened to Franklin Grahm's prayer from 2001, this morning.
It was just 3 minutes of 'god is great'. As repulsed as I am with warren and Obama giving him the honor, I am eagerly awaiting Obama's Administration and the new policies for our country.

7. Probably the exact same thing anyone else would.

24. Pssst:
Honestly, this place has become so awful that it pretty much kills happy, generous thoughts. Imagine DU as a storefront community organization, populated by real people. Imagine walking in to make a donation and being asked about the Warren pick. And imagine being called an asshole, a sexist, and a homophobe for saying you're dissapointed in the pick but don't think it's the end of the world. Then imagine being told you don't belong there because of that. Would you still leave your donation or would you find someplace else?

I stopped donating to the Salvation Army because of their stance on gay employees. We found a local organization that doesn't discriminate against anybody. They're always friendly when we stop by to drop off money and clothes and blankets and food.

9. I love there are so many other things going on in the news shame
People are angry right now and venting...would you rather they kept it in?

If you don't like the Warren threads don't go to them, they are pretty obvious to spot.

10. There has been no news on the Warren front for a couple days now
And still the same threads over and over again.

Some people are just drama queens (And dont even try to spin this into some homophobic comment)

are just as bad as the ones starting 10 to express their outrage.

22. I'm not saying "shut up," and this is
the only thread I've posted that might be construed as saying so. My only other contributions to this debate, OP-wise, have been three polls asking what people's opinions were on both Warren and various aspects of the equality movement.

23. The 10 thread statement wasn't a directed statement at the OP
Edited on Fri Dec-19-08 11:25 AM by Jake3463
As the replyer to my statement clarified it was not a statement against me.

Telling people to stop talking or there are more important things to talk about is almost a guarentee they are going to talk about it more because it sounds like your dismissing them.

25. Really , well there was a LOT of MSM coverage yesterday and many of the MSM aren't
forgetting about this either. David gergen was ripped to shreds on CNN and the question was publicly posed that if this was about African Americans Warren wouldn't be standing on that stage. This is no trivial issue.

I just don't get why GBTL asnd women's civil rights are viewed as "marginal" and we are encoyraged to overlook themand be willing to sacrifice them in the search for "commom ground". How can anyone find common ground with someonewho doresn't consider you an equal human being? And why on earth should anyone accept that as a valid "disagreement".

14. Why does it matter what DU obsesses over?
The Warren thing is of particular interest to gay-issue activist-minded type people who are 1% of the general population but probably 20% of DU.

There's no reason to expect DU to always have a lot to say about whatever the AP lead is. People talk about issues where there is a substantial difference of opinion. Everyone here wants Franken to win, for instance. (Because he's smart enough, good enough, and dog-gone it people like him.)
