politically. I've seen the clips of her and she comes off as completely ineffective and well, wishy washy. I have little doubt that she'll be appointed to the senate seat, and she'll have very little time to gain the requisite political skills.

Growing up in a political family is no guarantee that you'll be a good politician.

than most of what sits in the senate right now, such as Chambliss, Shelby and likes of them. She may be quite but has intelligence which is sorely missing. Just because one can wheel and deal and lie does not make a good senator. What we need right now are intelligent and honest people that have the best interests of this country at heart instead of those that have their best interests at heart and much they can gain personally.

I am all for her to get the job.

3. I heard one pundit

on MSNBC say that they only showed the worst clips of her that day, if you are referring to the trip to upstate NY two days ago. On the first stop, her entourage seemed to be taken by surprise by the media and not prepared to answer questions. At the two subsequent stops apparently she answered many questions without any problems. Of course, the MSM usually only wants to show the worst of a person, to make a story out of it, if they can. I think if she gets the appointment she will grow with the job. I remember early in the primary not being particularly impressed by Hilary Clinton's speaking abilities at her rallies but totally blown away by her speech at the convention and thinking -- WOW, if she'd only spoken like this during the primaries, she might have won.

I watched the local news with Caroline Kennedy making appearances intermittently..good to know.

I really like that she's getting out there and trying to do what it takes to get the appointment. We'll see.

I forgot to add that some of the people who are complaining about her in public, not on DU, are those sleezy NY politicians that have come up through the system here. They don't like the idea of her getting the appointment because she hasn't come up through the system as they did and thus she doesn't owe them anything.

And being a good politician doesn't neccessarily mean double speak and appearing slick. Bernie Sanders is a first rate politician. Nothing slick about Bernie and certainly no double speak, but he sure knows the importance of getting out there and engaging. She better learn that and fast.

her quiet confidence and competence; she's like Obama to me in that respect. She hasn't had to grub and muck her way up through the sleezy NY political system, therefore she is beholden to no one and owes nothing to anyone (I lived her 14 years so I've seen some of it). If she stays true to herself and starts speaking from the heart as Hilary did, I think she will be great.

She's a complete political unknown. She's no more likely to have the skills necessary to be an effective candidate and effective Senator than any New Yorker old enough to run is. You bring up RFK? RFK had a number of campaigns--and his work as AG--to work through his skills. Caroline is asking to be appointed without ever having run a single campaign or held a single public office.

Is a Senate seat really the most appropriate place for a complete novice to learn how to be a politician?

and she can raise money nicely. She's used to dealing with high powered people. She'll be fine.

So far, she comes off as a fish looking for water. As for that being part of her charm, New York is an older, cynical state that doesn't really believe in new beginnings.

Every time I see her I pity David Paterson and I wish this wasn't happening at all.
