Warren praises Obama's 'courage'
I commend President-elect Obama for his courage to willingly take enormous heat from his base by inviting someone like me, with whom he doesn't agree on every issue, to offer the Invocation at his historic Inaugural ceremony.

Hopefully individuals passionately expressing opinions from the left and the right will recognize that both of us have shown a commitment to model civility in America.

The Bible admonishes us to pray for our leaders. I am honored by this opportunity to pray God's blessing on the office of the President and its current and future inhabitant, asking the Lord to provide wisdom to America's leaders during this critical time in our nation's history.

Looks like Obama will not be able to rescind now. He could have if the flap had escaped the media's attention. But not now.

Please don't make him out to be a fucking hero. And against what, may I ask, an oppressed minority? What fucking courage is that?

13. Obama is doing the right and honorable thing
he is doing what he promised this nation he would do. If he wanted to do the politically easy thing or be an "opportunist" (as you accused him of) he could have made the safe choice. Instead he is showing that he will make every effort to unite this country. Even if the hate filled extremists of both the left and the right attack him.

31. Warren is like most people he has good and bad in him
he has done great things for the poor and the environment. He has terribly misguided and wrong headed views about abortion and gay marriage. That does not mean he should be excluded from our Country. That is the sort of the thinking George Bush used and I hated. It stinks just as bad when our side uses it. It's called rising above the pettiness of partisanship and looking out for the greater good of our nation. Considering the mess our nation is in, it's sorely needed.

79. this is NOT "working with someone".
inviting Warren to ecumenical Presidential Prayer Breakfasts, where MANY points of view are exchanged (hopefully for the great good of all) is "working with someone".

putting a woman-hater and gay-hater up on the dais on this momentous day, when women and gays helped to put Obama in office, is NOT "working with someone". it's a slap in the face.

you invite him, and lots of other ministers representing lots of other faiths and sects, to a Presidential Prayer Breakfast.

you put together an ecumenical meeting of lots of ministers representing lots of faiths and sects, and you invite him.

but you DON'T put him up on the dais for what is supposed to be a celebration for ALL Americans. you don't put someone on the dais who hates gays and women. you don't use this momentous occasion to throw a lot of your supporters under the bus.

of being a great president that bridges divides and differences. A man that is setting the example. A man that is saying that people you don't agree with are not baby killers or evil homophobes. He is saying we are all Americans and we need to be united and work together.

You are in desperate need of his moral lessons.

69. People call me (and Obama) baby killers for supporting abortion
rights. I think that's terrible. I can't call them out and then turn around and attack a man as evil for being opposed to gay marriage. I think a far more sensible approach is to engage him and let him see the errors of his way. The idea that people who have a wrong view or opinion should be ostracized was proven wrong with Bush's disastrous foreign policy. They same a wise man learns from the mistakes of others.

As much as you wish it could happen- it won't, becasue it's not in their nature.

And those who think that is is- and act like the frog are going to get stung. Repeatedly.

if Warren were REALLY a man of God, he would have declined the invitation. he would have told Obama that though he was flattered by the invitation, that the day was really for the whole country to celebrate, and not an opportunity for him to grandstand.

if Warren were Obama's real friend, he would say that his presence might put a chill on the day for Obama's gay and woman supporters, and that he respected Obama enough to not get in the way on such an important day.

but he's just an egotistical bigoted gasbag, out for himself and himself alone. he wouldn't recognize Jesus the Christ if he met him on the street.
