I am sad to see the level of discourse here, today and yesterday...
We are all hurt...

We are all angry...

But what are we doing with our hurt, our anger?

We're directing it at each other...

Instead of sending our messages to the man who created the mess: Barack Obama.

We can settle nothing here...We don't have the power to change what happens at the Inauguration...

Only Obama does, and we all know it.

So...tell him about your feelings.

And let DU become a place for more civil discourse.

Peace on earth...good will to all people...

Is it really too much to ask?

Oh, I hope not.

Peace out...

13. Human nature, CP...human nature.
A few moments ago, in a different thread, I encouraged a fellow DUer to take his concerns to Barack Obama.

Because here is the stark reality of things.

There is a very good chance that Obama's handlers / staff members / friends / etc. chek in on DU from time to time...maybe even daily.

But is Barack Obama reading the Rick Warren threads?

No, he's not. If I had a farm, I'd bet the farm on it.

So anyone who is upset with Obama has the option of contacting Obama.

He's not God. He's not perfect. He's not the second coming of JFK or Christ. He is...

AN ELECTED OFFICIAL.

That's right...he works for YOU and for ME and for EVERY man and woman who elected him to office.

He doesn't work for Rick Warren.

He words for US.

And anyone who doesn't like his choice of invocation speaker needs to contact BARACK OBAMA and stop taking their frustrations out on their fellow DUers.

34. I don't understand several of the moves Obama has made in this transition.
And when I get agitated about it, I have people close to me that have been instructed to remind me that he hasn't been sworn in yet, that he is just moving the pieces into place.

I object to Warren because he is a leader that proselytizes fear and ignorance and bigotry from the pulpit. I also understand perspective, that this is worse than McClurkin being invited to perform at one concert cosponsored by Obama during the primary, and not nearly as bad as Bill Clinton choosing his political longevity by not vetoing (and thus signing into policy) the Defense of Marriage Act.

Today Bush finalized the Right of Conscience Act and the implications of that mess are far-reaching. It is the insidious nature of these kinds of policies that affects the freedom and quality of lives. Bad policy resonates.

I find the accusations and attacks on those at DU that are deemed not sufficiently overtly outraged to the prescribed level over the Warren inclusion in the inauguration really unfortunate. It seems unique to DU and DU alone from my experience. Perspective and choosing battles wisely is not a character flaw. It is wisdom.

I will be looking to President Barack Obama to prove he is a fierce advocate of the LGBT community by his policies. Although I certainly don't understand some of the decisions he has made with regard to putting people into place, I do understand that it is policy that makes a difference in peoples' lives.

Pace su terra.

37. Thanks for your voice of peace, California Peggy
DU has really bummed me out since the election. It makes me so sad that I want to go away, despite its having been my home for 6 years.

I finally figured out that my problem is that I wanted to bask in the afterglow of this achievement at least until Barack Obama got sworn in, then maybe a little of the traditional "honeymoon" presidents are supposed to get ... before harsh reality sets in.

Instead, every time I turn around I realize that whole bunches of DUers think this hope, this wish of mine is nothing but rank stupidity and the naivete of a child. The "perfect" is driving out the "good". Barack Obama will never be perfect, so he will never be good enough. Pointing that out gets interpreted as being told to stfu, throwing people under the bus and backing up on them...

An absolutely incredible historic event has taken place this November. If there was an afterglow from the election, it was not at DU -- we were too busy fighting about Proposition 8 and the alleged part that black voters played in its passage (no real analysis like Rachel Maddow did, but just pitting one group against another). If there is a honeymoon period for this new president-to-be, it is not at DU -- period.

I want to understand, really, but I can't take the vitriol.

Stupid of me, but I'm  Really stupid.

I need a break.

Hekate

39. CP, you are good voice of reason on here. You worked for the Obama
campaign and am sure you enjoyed it. I have no Idea why PE Obama would nominate a bigot to his inaguration! That is such a slap in the face of the people who supported him.

I think power corrupts! But I might be wrong, I am just hoping he will do right by the American people but his reaching across the aisle is too much for me, that is a fallacy. Republicans will always be republicant's.

The world is banking on this guy to make a difference, if you are dissapointed, then it is de ja vue right back to 2004 when Geore Bush got elected again!

I remember walking around in a daze wondering how come Americans voted this prick in! Hold Obama's feet to the fire. Do not let him get away with crap like George Bush!

It's been busy for the mods lately.

My opinion is that if you reach out like this to Warren, not much is gained. It doesn't say much for Obama's gay rights stance, and fundies are rigid in their beliefs. They will stab you in the back. But there's a lot of room for civil disagreement. :hi:
