Hartmann: Blago pageant is first shot in 8 years of GOP/media terrorizing Obama
Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 12:44 PM by TOJ
Get used to it. Here come the 90's again. Remember Travelgate? Vince Foster? Drug running in AR? Here they come again.

Edit: I predict Obama will be impeached during his terms as president. They will find/create something to impeach him for.

1. terrorizing? I don't think that's accurate.
However, I surely don't expect anything less than hostile from the GOP. And not much more from the MSM.

I think they treated her horridly but I still think it's a misuse of the word "terrorize".

39. You say potato...
It was an attempt by the right wing to undo the results of a lawful election.

When terrorists can't get their way, they blow up airplanes. These guys just blew up an administration -- and basically drove Vince Foster to suicide. So we've got a body count.

Oswald used a rifle. Ailes used Fox News. Less bloodly, but still pretty damned effective.

Terrorize?

Sit at the bedside of somebody dying of an entirely preventable disease and tell me it's not terrible. These bastards created the Clinton scandals as a vehicle to ensure that we didn't get universal health care.

Terrorize.

and there are now way too many Rethugs who have gotten away with far worse for them to successfully take the moral high ground.

This will roll off our backs just like Rew. Wright did.

6. Not to mention that Bush got away with murder during his term..
and wasn't impeached.

At this point, most people understand that Clinton should have never been impeached for what he did.

40. Now that you mention it...
That really is a boatload of indicted governors.

Otto Kerner and Dan Walker I remember from my childhood. But Walker was indicted (and convicted) years after he left office.

My favorite was Paul Powell, Illinois Secretary of State who died while being treated at the Mayo Clinic. They found shoeboxes with $800,000 in cash in his hotel room in Rochester. This was in 1970, with $800K was a SERIOUS amount of cash.

Edited on Wed Dec-10-08 12:51 PM by Cleita
to end the Vietnam war. It turns out Nixon had committed treason and LBJ tried to keep this from going public because he didn't want it to hinder a Nixon Presidency should he be elected. Thanks a lot LBJ. It turns out you enabled the old white guys party to turn into the crooks and liars party that this country has had to suffer under too many years of their being in power in the past fifty years. This is what happens when you let your politicos get away with treason and murder. It's being done again with Bush/Cheney. Those criminals will be walking into the sunset and we are going to have to put up with eight more years of Obama being constantly attacked by GOP operatives.

14. The difference between Obama and the Clintons
is that I believe he is fundamentally clean and some of the stuff the Rs hammered away with on the Clintons were true. Bill just manufactured and gave them the napalm to throw.

I lost respect for them a long time ago and over many policy issues. Can we start with NAFTA? Or Kosovo? Or Rwanda?

19. Oh, please. If the shoe was on the other foot, we would be hitting the Repubs as well.
Say there was a GOP Pres Elect and the governor of his state was arrested on corruption charges. Damn straight we would go after the Pres and try to nail him/her with everything we could.

I have no problem with going after Obama with the truth. The truth is he helped Blago become governor in '02 and endorsed him in '06. He did encourage state lawmakers to pass a states ethics bill, so that's good. But generally speaking, I don't see Obama as a big reformer of Illinois state politics. He was going onto bigger things. That's fine, but he doesn't come across as a hero to me here.

If the Right ventures into lies, well then we fight back with our much more mature media. There is also the fact that the previous Republican governor of Illinois also went to jail, so they should be careful with this one.

IF Obama does a good job governing, and the Democrats in Congress do a good job, then we will retain the Congress each election cycle. Then the Repubs won't have the votes for impeachment. And, really, Obama is a lot cleaner than Clinton ever was. Some of the stuff, you know, was true, about Clinton.

You forget that it was the Clintons and their closet full of skeletons that the Repukes had to play with last time.

Obama is a totally different animal. The best they have on him is guilt by association. And nobody's buying that anymore.

The way to get back at them is to shoot back. Say there is a Senator (R) protesting a little too much... go after them like jackals. Everyone has something to hide. Just peel it back relentlessly.

Play nice and they steal your dice.

38. How absurd. 1) Blago's indictment wasn't a shot at Obama. 2) He won't be impreached
It took the Republicans 4 years to work up the balls to impeach Clinton and they hated him 10 times worse than they do Obama.

When Clinton won the White House, there was already an overall Republican trend in Congressional seats. Obama is riding (and fueling) a wave of pro-Democratic politics. The chances of us losing the House in 2010 are remote. There is zero chance of us losing the Senate in the next election.
