just a reminder about fitzgerald and his appointment to chicago
fitzgerald was sent to chicago to go after the corruption in the democratic party in chicago. they were after rich daley. unfortunately for the republicans in washington dc and Illinois he sent george ryan to prison and the republican party into disarray. fitzgerald still has an on going investigation into rich daley`s affairs.

blagovitch has been under investigation for three years and fitzgerald announced today because he was afraid the senate candidate would be "tainted". there`s still an on going investigation into blago`s dealings.

fitzgerald has one of the largest or the largest number of investigative teams in the united states.

10. Look at the pattern
They indicted and convicted people around Blago for several years now.

They've been indicting and convicting people around Daley all year long.

11. They've been doing that 20 years.
Daley will come out smelling like roses.

He's not an idiot, you won't catch him openly and blatantly planning corruption over a tapped phone.

and Blagojevich croneis were convicted for the past few years before Blagojevich went down.

Suspeicion has been around Daley for years now.

17. i`ve typed 36,000 posts since 2002 with one finger...
capitalization requires the shift key or caps lock. since the shift key is out of the question and the caps lock takes extra finger movements i prefer to limit my exposure to finger fatigue. if i feel it`s important to capitalize i will take my head off my left arm and use my left finger to press the caps or shift key.

Now, I'm intrigued as to why you chose to... um... take your head off your left arm and capitalize Illinoise.

14. Where did you get
Edited on Tue Dec-09-08 09:27 PM by Venceremos
that Fitzgerald was sent to Illinois to get Democrats? He was appointed to IL to investigate pervasive government corruption in Illinois and Chicago, in both parties. He's always been highly regarded for being "apolitical", meaning he doesn't target either party, just crooks.

Patrick Fitzgerald is so "apolitical" that the Republican who appointed him to Illinois, Peter Fitzgerald (no relation), caught flak from Dennis Hastert for not consulting with him over the appointment, and the GOP state committee declined to endorse him for re-election.

Following are my sources, where are yours?

16. And if said fmr Senator Fitzgerald had sought reelection.
He very well may have won.

I voted for him over Carol Mosely Braun in 1998, and knowing only what I did then, may have voted to reelect him over some state senator from the South Side I had never heard of.

Peter Fitzgerald really was a good senator for Illinois, however fortunately for the entire world, he decided to retire.

19. i should have used "perceived" since he was sent by the republican senator
other than that i have followed his career in chicago since he hit town and have defended him many times here at du during the libby grand jury. i still defend him against those that think he`s a failure to cheney, rove,or bush during the grand jury investigation in washington.

we certainly agree on what he has done for the northern district of illinois. getting rid of drug kingpins, racist thugs, crooked politicians and business people makes this district just a bit more livable. at one time i thought he`d make a great attorney general but then we`d lose him here in northern illinois......

27. Blago Will Set A New Record...
I could see a long indictment here...I can't even venture to guess how many years all these charges could total. This slimebag deserves every day he's sentenced to.

In 2000, I served on a Federal jury on Dearborn street...and saw Fitzgerald and his team at work. They not only were impressively professional, they were no nonsense. Fitzgerald at the time said, and I've heard him say variations of this since, he does not bring a case unless he's all but sure of a conviction...that it surpasses the burden of proof and he'll take his time in getting that proof. We saw it when it took a couple years to squeeze up to get Ryan and how he was able to do the same with Libby.

A week or so before the election, I heard a rumor that said Fitz was ready to lower the boom on Blago, but was waiting until after the election to avoid making it look like a political case. In reading Blago's blabbings, this sounds like a dude who knows it's a matter of time and was trying find or buy his way out of Fitz's crosshairs.

The interesting story will be who dropped the dime on Blago. Reports have pointed to Rahm who then called Fitz and that prompted the current charge (soon to be multiple charges).

Yep, Fitz was brought in by repugnican Peter Fitzgerald to go after Daley and his Silver Shovel mess, but as is usually the case when it comes to corruption in Chicago, the underlings and stupid ones both get caught and take the heat.

Cheers...
