Rumors are flying in North Carolina that 77 year old republican from NCs 6th is going to run against Kay Hagan in 2014 when she is up for reelection.

1. Is this a joke?
77 years old, and planning for an election six years from now? Why not just run the zombie corpse of Strom Thurmond?

Any hard data? I lived in his district for 20 years; he just got elected to his 12th term -- he has had no serious opposition since his first bid for re-election. He won that 1st term over Robin Britt, (who I worked to elect, twice), and who Coble defeated by 79 votes for his second term. Howard's pretty much invisible, and maintains one of those home Congressional offices that keeps the constituents happy -- sending out flags that have flown over the Capitol, posing for pictures with kids, veterans, and Jaycees, donating to the Coats for Kids campaigns. etc.

Howard isn't a bad guy, he's just not Senatorial timber. Plus, he's 77 and I think he's up for maybe one more term so that his place as NC's longest serving Congressman is assured. Then the confirmed bachelor will retire to his little farm in Guilford County.

11. It's 6 years away
In 2002 would you have projected an African American President named Barack Obama...would you even know who he was?

In 1994 would you have thought Bush I's kid was going to get elected?
