"Where rich Republicans get nekkid in the woods" ...The Bohemian Club
AKA "Bohemian Grove"...

Has anyone here ever heard of it?

David Gergen was brought up in another post, and while I don't dislike him.. it reminded me of a strange and secretive group that he belongs to. A group of rich men who perform bizarre rituals of some sort in the woods of Northern California. (I kid you not)

(Other members include David Rockefeller (and son), Henry Kissinger, George H.W. Bush, George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, Colin Powell, George P. Shultz, Donald Rumsfeld, Kenneth Starr, and approximately 2700 other members.. http://www.geocities.com/northstarzone/BOGROVE.html )

Bohemian Club "Why do the Authorities still allow this Club to Operate?"
http://www.greatdreams.com/political/bohemian.htm

Bohemian Grove is a 2,700-acre (11 km2) campground located at 20601 Bohemian Avenue, in Monte Rio, California, belonging to a private San Francisco-based men's art club known as the Bohemian Club. In mid-July each year, Bohemian Grove hosts a three-week encampment of some of the most powerful men in the world.<1><2>

Protests and controversies

With its combination of wealth and power, Bohemian Grove's secrecy has been a target for protest for many years. The Bohemian Grove Action Network of Occidental, California organizes protests and has aided journalists who wish to penetrate the secrecy surrounding the encampment. Over the years, individuals have infiltrated the Grove then later published video and claimed accounts of the activities at Bohemian Grove.

On July 15, 2000, Austin, Texas-based filmmaker Alex Jones and his cameraman, Mike Hanson, infiltrated the Grove and successfully made it out with documented evidence. With a hidden camera, Jones and Hanson were able to film the Cremation of Care ceremony. The footage was the centerpiece of Jones' documentary, Dark Secrets: Inside Bohemian Grove. Jones claimed that the Cremation of Care is an "ancient Canaanite, Luciferian, Babylon mystery religion ceremony," and that the owl statue is Moloch, although ancient descriptions of Moloch suggest a human figure with the head of a bull rather than an owl.<12><13> The Grove and Jones' investigation were covered by Jon Ronson in Channel 4's four-part documentary, Secret Rulers of the World. Ronson documented his view of the ritual in his book, Them: Adventures With Extremists, writing that it was a startling, immature, and bizarre way for world leaders to spend their summer vacations, but that he did not see evidence of covert Satanism. According to his description of the account it was nothing more than a fraternity-esque ritual, and the only reason one could see it as Satanic was if one were looking for Satanism in it to begin with.

Also filmed for The Order of Death was Jones' return to the entrance of the Bohemian Grove in 2005 where he filmed a protest organized by the Bohemian Grove Action Network that took place at the Grove's entrance on Bohemian Highway, only to discover a majority of the protesters engaging in an "occult counter-ritual", supposedly a counter-ritual against the Cremation of Care. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cremation_of_Care

If anyone knows anything about this place.. What on earth prompts these rich, powerful, Republicans to get naked in the woods and perform private ceremonies?

Nixon and Reagan even used to go there..

Anyone ever hear of the place?

It's all about heavy drinking, socializing & talks with very powerful & important men & listening to old 60's SF rock guys. It's a big status thing for certain Bay Area types particularly. Very old school. Probably a big mistake to ever waste your time/money on this.

It takes 20 years if you are a "nobody" to get in & costs a lot of money. There are only a couple of events a year there as far as I know. They have a hotel/club in SF too.

I'm not supposed to know any of this, but a secret isn't any good unless you tell somebody.

Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 05:01 AM by Downtown Hound
And I dated a girl that actually worked there. It's still only about a half hour drive from where I live now. I'll give you the lowdown as I see it.

Bohemian Grove as it is today is really nothing more than a big fratboy playground. At one time, it might have been something more than that. I've heard plenty of stories about dark things that used to go on there, Satanic rituals, human sacrifice and the like, but I really don't think that those things are going on there now if in fact they ever were.

It is well known that many rich and powerful do belong to secret societies, and I do believe that some of those societies have engaged in extremely reprehensible behavior in the past and still probably do to a certain degree. I knew a woman from this area who claimed to be a victim of ritual abuse administered to her by a group of rich and powerful Satanists, and I believed her, because I saw them around on more than one occasion while I was with her. But does any of this relate to Bohemian Grove? I don't think so. Maybe some really dark, sinister stuff did go on there at one time, but I don't think it still does.

From what I understand, based off of everything I've ever read or heard about it, essentially what happens at Bohemian Grove is that it's extremely wealthy and powerful members show up and have a big pagan-inspired ritual, in which they perform what they say is a mock human sacrifice in the "Cremation of Care" ritual. The official reason for this is that they are leaving their worldly cares behind in preparation for the big party that's about to ensue.

For the rest of the time that they are there, and all of this comes from my ex-girlfriend that used to work there, it's essentially a big drunken escapade. The guys urinate wherever and whenever they want, they grope the female help (she told me that by the time she quit working there she hated men so much that she didn't date again for over a year), and essentially have a good old boys time. I'm sure hookers are probably brought in and God knows what else. Think of the worst frat boy party at the worst party school, then factor in lots of money and power and older men who believe they own the world and are drunk off their asses, and you have Bohemian Grove. I know a therapist who has said that he has treated women who were raped there before, but again, this has more to do with the fact that it's a rich boys gone wild club rather than it is some dark secret sect. Anyways, here's the only known video to exist of the Bohemian Grove Cremation of Care ritual, shot by Alex Jones, who snuck onto the premises with a camera one night.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sZD3WT3Vqa8
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrZ1B38TH6k&feature=related

After this video surfaced, Bohemian Grove officials stated that they were performing a "mock" human sacrifice. Conspiracy theorists believe that the Cremation of Care Ritual is in fact much more than simply letting yourself go for a wild party. They say that it's really symbolic of the organization's true purpose, a purpose that is hidden even from most of its members except for those at the very top: to destroy care in the world. They claim that the Grove's members are a wide cross section of members from other secret and all-powerful societies such as the Skull and Bones, Freemasons, and the Illuminati, some of which supposedly are controlled by inner circles of Satan worshipers working against the better interests of humankind. They supposedly do this by seducing the rich and the powerful, and see to it that the policies they inflict on the world do as much damage to human progress as they possibly can while at the same time consolidating all of the world's wealth and power for themselves. They also say that the mock human sacrifice they perform is in fact not mock at all, but a real person. This is the source of much of the controversy regarding the club, and why your article mentions the counter occult ceremony done by the protesters, who are hoping to cleanse the negative energy called up by the club's members.

As for me, I do believe that some of the world's secret societies are probably involved in some pretty horrific shit. Some of it may even be occult or Satanic-centered. But I think that whatever might have gone on at Bohemian Grove at one time isn't what goes on now. Even if the conspiracy theorists are right about the true aim of secret societies, I doubt that a whole lot of their planning and manipulation gets done at Bohemian Grove anymore. Those guys are simply too smashed, and the place has become too well known.

Anyways, some photos of Bohemian Grove throughout the years. It's old. Pay close attention to the last two. What do you think, is that a dummy they're hanging? Another mock human sacrifice? Or is it real? Beats me.

38. I have lived on the Old Redwood Highway (road to the BG)
I have also lived on Willow Road ( 2 blocks from the entrance) both in what's left of Monti Rio, CA.

I know a couple of present members and one guy who is a perennial guest, my best friends dad, who surprised us all by paling around with Mickey Hart who he met at the grove. very strange place. most of the members I've known are pretty well off.

I walked in to the grove from the redwood highway and got chased by dobermen and grounds keepers. I have also walked in via a trail on the hill behind the grove and gotten in the meeting area before being told to go back and get out. all times I've done this was way off season. I always tried to be out of the are when the shindigs were happing.

now days I live in Oakland.

46. There you go.
Actually, has anyone seen a little known film called "Teddy Bear's Picnic"? It was written by Harry Shearer. It isn't great, but it is a scathing parody of Bohemian Grove. Here's info off wiki

" Plot
The plot of the movie is based on the Bohemian Grove, where, since 1872, prominent male leaders in world politics, business, media, and finance, have gathered at a very private, very exclusive retreat located in a secluded redwood grove in Sonoma County, California outside San Francisco and, among other things, allegedly plan how they can run the world in secret. Rampant homosexual activity is also alleged, specifically the more recent involvement of gay adult film star Chad Savage. While historically an all-male venue, women have recently been given jobs at the club, albeit in low-level positions such as parking attendants and kitchen staff. The annual encampment is marked by the "Cremation of Care" ceremony, in which a human effigy dubbed "dull care" is cremated by priests on an altar in front of a large stone owl statue.

In Teddy Bears' Picnic, the Grove's owl statue is replaced by a pelican, Care is replaced by a large neon clock, and dark priests are replaced by men in Halloween-style witches' garb casting spells while stirring a large cauldron. In the film, the events are exposed by two club employees who surreptitiously film the ceremony."

39. I know rather a lot about it
As I have professional and personal friendships with several members of the Bohemian club. some are staggeringly wealthy, some are modest-living artists with a day job. It costs a fortune to be a member of the club, unless they think someone is sufficiently arty and interesting in which case fees are waived. Like anything exclusive, it attracts a lot of speculation which is more sensational than the reality. Some people think it's the secret lair of the New World Order, some think it's it's a big gay orgy, some people think the New World Order is about big gay orgies. Me, I think it's more like the libertarian convention for grown-ups.

If I was David Gergen I'd tell Alex Jones to fuck off as well. He's a tacky little gossip monger who makes a living out of exploiting his readers' social and psychological anxieties.

40. Robert Parry - The October Surprise and The Bohemian Grove
http://www.consortiumnews.com/2005/050905.html

"If you want to understand why George W. Bush and his political allies were so confident they could get away with manipulating information to dupe the American people into war in Iraq, a good place to start might be to look at this photo of 16 men posing for a group shot in front of the Parsonage cottage at the Bohemian Grove on the last weekend of July 1980.

I found the photo among unpublished documents of a congressional investigation into the so-called October Surprise case, accusations that George H.W. Bush and other Republicans sabotaged President Jimmy Carter during the 1980 campaign by going behind his back and secretly negotiating with Iran’s Islamic government as it held 52 Americans hostage...

...Central to the debunking was the creation of alibis for key Republican players on dates when various witnesses placed them at meetings with Iranian representatives.

One alibi proved particularly important for the Reagan-Bush supporters determined to transform the October Surprise probe into a laughable “conspiracy theory.” That alibi was for the whereabouts of Reagan’s late campaign chief William J. Casey on the last weekend of July 1980, when Iranian businessman Jamshid Hashemi placed Casey at a meeting in Madrid with senior Iranian cleric Mehdi Karrubi..."
