"Impeach Bush" Ornament Accepted For Hanging On White House Christmas Tree
Christmas Colors for the White House: Red, White and Impeach

When Deborah Lawrence got the invitation from the White House, the Seattle-based artist decided to make a lefty political statement.

But she never expected it would hang on the official Christmas tree.

Laura Bush asked members of Congress to pick local painters to decorate ornaments for this year's 20-foot Fraser fir in the Blue Room. The globes (to be unveiled by the first lady tomorrow) are supposed to showcase something special about each congressional district. Washington state's Rep. Jim McDermott contacted a local arts organization, which asked Lawrence, a collage artist, to create the local entry.

"Apparently, they didn't read it -- or Laura Bush is more progressive than I believed," Lawrence told us.

1. the artist has a book -- buy it if you can

Please pass this around so that anyone who can support this artist will know about her work. Reward her for this patriotic and bold gesture if you can.

2. Here is is !!

Sally McDonough, the first lady's press secretary, said yesterday that hundreds of ornaments were submitted for display and there were no plans to pull Lawrence's artwork or her invitation. But, she said, "it really is too bad. I haven't seen the ornament, but I would hope that no one would take this as an opportunity to be divisive and partisan. There is a time and place for everything, and I don't think this is either."

8. Hey, I think it was a PERFECT time to put in place this ornament!
If at the so-called "appropriate" times, people's sentiments about this issue are being censored or squelched and not listened to, then it needs to be talked about at times when it will draw more attention, whether someone feels it appropriate or not. Having this sort of form of protest happening is a consequence of our do-nothing congress and this CRIMINAL administration's unchecked actions. DEAL with it lady!

13. It's not going to hang after all, Laura said no
From this link:
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/reliable-source/2008/12/ornament_update.html

Sally McDonough, a spokeswoman for the first lady, confirmed the ornament would not be displayed. "It's inappropriate and it's not being hung," she said. She said that when asked about the issue yesterday, the White House tree decorations were not complete. "We reviewed the ornament along with all the ornaments, and Mrs. Bush deemed it inappropriate for the holiday tree."

7. Heh. That's awesome! I didn't do that to my ornament, though.
I had an ornament on the 1998 White House Christmas Tree, the same winter they were talking impeachment of Clinton. I just made a hat and mitten set, like our guild was asked to do. Ugliest Christmas tree ever, btw. Seriously, massively ugly. Really. Apparently we knitters were too uppity, though, as we've never been asked again to provide ornaments, even though the Society of Decorative Artists gets asked pretty much every year. We were upset that they asked for hat and mitten sets and made it sound like they'd be donated to area children afterwards when the law says that all Christmas ornaments have to be archived in the Smithsonian, and apparently we pissed off a few in the East Wing in saying that the hats and mittens should've been donated.

11. what's he waiting for?
My ex's moving out process was awful. I went through the house with a box of color coded stickers in advance, marking his and hers on things. He made an awful mess and was a jerk.

15. He wants the house.
He's refusing to move out. My lawyer's taking care of it, but that doesn't make living with him easy.

Been there and have the wrinkles and cry lines to prove it. Good thoughts your way. It will get better. I know that sounds trite but 20 months later I have never been happier, than I was when shit dog the home wrecker took his shit and left. Always your friend, Binka.
