Did anyone else just watch Christopher Hitchens on Hardball?
Edited on Mon Dec-01-08 05:44 PM by Bucky
Matthews just did a hilarious interview with Hitch. Hitch was paired against reporter from Salon who is, apparently, a friend of Hillary Clinton's. The topic was Obama's national security cabinet appointments. But everytime Tweets brought Clinton up, Hitch went on a paranoid ranting spew with a dazzling Pavlovian consistancy. Of course he had to pull in some random example of supposed Clintonian evil conspiracy, most of it ludicrous sounding. The last involved Clinton being in the pocket of Wahhabist extremists from Saudi Arabia.

 Classic TV! The Salon reporter called Hitch to the carpet so often that he ended up looking like an obsessed lunatic. He's got a British accent, so I just assume he's pretty smart. But does the man really not see how clownish he's become? I just love watching Matthews let Hitch destroy the credibility of the antiClinton faction of... of...

Just what larger group do these people belong to, anyway? Most Republicans have been praising Clinton's selection as SecState. I think at this point we can just think of Clinton Derangement Syndrome as an actual disease, simply randomly afflicting a 1 in 1000 Americans with no known environmental or genetic factors.

Anyway, I love a good comedy show. Never let me miss another episode of "Hitch My Wagon to the Stars" -- he's like the next Foster Brooks.

BTW, that was Joan Walsh from Salon. I got a kick out of her saying to Hitchins "I'm going to step around the rubble now".

I was actually laughing as I wrote this. Surprised I didn't make more mistakes

Joan Walsh was perfect. But I felt sorry for her being paired off against the demonstrably insane

5. When I hear his voice my brain disengages.
Because he sounds a little like Robin Leech of "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" fame, and so I automatically assume that he is an asshat.

Which I think he is, so my brain disengages.

Probably a good thing.

34. He's almost a textbook example of alcohol induced cognitive degeneration
I don't want to over do the usual "he's just a drunk" critiques, but his obsession & irrationality over the Clintons looks a lot like dementia or clinical paranoia.

16. Oh I Saw That. She Did More Than Call him To The Carpet
She shut his fucking ass up every time! Every goddamned time Hillary's name was brought up he did the Exorcist thing (head spinning, vomiting, etc.) and tried (emphasis on TRIED) to shit on Hillary and Bill. Well, each time that happened, and it happened a lot, Joan (not sure of her last name) shut him completely down. She said "I've been at your house." And he numbed up right away, but just like the Energizer Bunny, he continues on his Hillary hate (That's what it was). Then, a little later, she says "I've had a drink with you." well, that seemed to do the trick, almost. He toned it down a teeny weensy bit after that. Oh, it was a classic smackdown.

P.S. Hey Swamp Rat Buddy: Could you please do a hitchens pic? Pretty, pretty, pretty please?:) :yourock:

28. Hitchens is a reformed liberal who turned into a Muslim hating neo con
He is a smart guy and I liked his book "God Is Not Great". I think he had some good points about the Clintons, I don't agree with everything and he seems a tad paranoid, but the idea that Bill would serve as an envoy between Pakistan and India is completely laughable and I very much hope Obama doesn't go that route. Hitch was correct in saying that Bill has been bought and sold by the Saudi royal family and his interests are very much a conflict of interest. I also liked his idea of Susan Rice as Sos instead of Clinton. Would have been a much better pick. Oh well let the drama begin.

33. the kicker was when he got a bug up his ass about "my opinions"
Joan dismissed his rant of silliness by saying, "well that's your opinion" and he got all haughty saying "Of course it's MY opinion, who's opinion would I be giving except mine?"

While rhetorically cute, he missed the point that his whole thesis came down his claim to perfect authority on being able to read Hillary Clinton's mind and pronouncing that (paraphrasing) "She never thinks of the country first. She always acts in her own interests first, and then Bill Clinton's second, and only later in the country's interest."

So he's able to totally catagorize & break down the Clinton's mindsets, and interpret them to be 180 degress opposite of what they present, but no one else should be able to clarify that the the matters he is presenting as hard fact are in fact only his opinions--and opinions that radically conflict with established fact.

35. When Hitch talks about Hillary Clinton
Edited on Tue Dec-02-08 03:10 PM by spiritual_gunfighter
He always assumes that he knows what her true intentions are. I have seen him do it in the past. It doesn't help his argument. On the other hand Joan Walsh is a huge cheerleader for all things Hillary and talked shit about Obama even after he won the nomination, she also stated repeatedly that she doubted the Hillary voters would come over to Obama, so I don't have much use for her either.
