Can we have a seperate forum for "Hillary's Machiavellian Control Over Obama" threads?
Edited on Fri Nov-28-08 11:37 AM by Mayberry Machiavelli
Maybe it could be a subforum of the gun control one or something.

I see a handful of threads devoted to this topic, specifically vis SoS appointment, on the first page of GD:P this morning.

It seems a complete duplicate of the Veepstakes gossip over "HRC's people are strongarming Obama into picking her!" and "If he DOESN'T pick her it will be because he's too weak to have her on the ticket!" with the important difference that it's much more ludicrous, because Obama showed himself to be better than all that during the election, and the political "leverage" over Obama in such a scenario is essentially ZERO as Obama has won the presidency and as nothing to fear from embittered Clinton supporters if anyone tried to maneuver him into picking her and he said no or pointed out that it was just a rumor. The leverage during the general election was NOT zero.

All the threads, if I am not mistaken, stem from ONE HuffPo article and Elizabeth Drew, and are not directly sourced to anyone on the recod in either the Clinton or Obama camps.

I'm not aware that there's been any mention of this outside the HuffPo and DU universe. I don't watch a lot of TV but I've heard nothing about it there, nor on major online newspapers that I peruse.

Is there any reason that if the Clinton people promoted a rumor that Obama offered Clinton to be SoS, and he actually didn't, and didn't want her to be SoS, that he or his people wouldn't simply announce to the press that there seemed to be a misconception about this, "we are considering different candidates, and no offer has been made at this time, we'll let you know when there's more news"?

The whole thing seems designed to undermine the perception of Obama as being in control of his own affairs, and stir up hostility juices from the primary and promote divisiveness among Democrats after a crushing victory.

3. Hillary is now Head of State...
According to one carefully vetted media source. :sarcasm:

It's astonishing how her star has so quickly risen, right past Obama who is merely president elect. :eyes:

4. I'd be curious how those who are promoting suh a rumor would explain what
the source of Clinton's leverage over Obama would be.

Why, if they floated a rumor, he couldn't just quash it.

At least during the convention time frame, there was a legitimate concern about maintaining the Clinton voters for the GE.

5. He could quash it, but that would set a bad precedent, I think.
There are more important things to do right now than to expend any energy toward rumor-management.

If he wants to keep his SOS options open, he should say nothing at all about this.

Also, responding in any way dignifies the rumor, it may have a tendency to perpetuate the rumor problem, and sets up the expectation that he should respond to rumors, which he shouldn't.

Maybe there is a sound bit of sourcing or logic in this thread, but I wouldn't count on it:

6. Well, my point is, I think he's probably offered her the job and NOT been manipulated into it.
The rumor I was referring to is the rumor A, that he offered her the job (when he supposedly never actually did) as opposed to rumor B, that he never offered her the job but was boxed into the current scenario by Clinton people floating rumor A.

Rumor A would in my view require quashing if that were the situation, if nothing else just to maintain control over your own affairs and information about your transition.

Rumor B requires nothing to be said at all as it's ridiculous.

12. I agree with you there.
I never did buy into the pressure thing.....so much crap that would be so unlike the Obama I think I know.

I'm thinking there have been conversations, she is under consideration, and nothing more.

You'd think that we aren't in two wars, mortgage meltdown, economy in taters.

20. I think most all Clinton supporters switched to Obama.
Then all of a sudden when this board felt united after a long time of being divided by the primary, a flood of rumors hit and an avalanche of Hillary disruptor's flooded the board. Where they came from along with the media's rumors makes me wonder if it isn't all connected (the media and the Clinton disruptor's)?

wasn't worth it. I was curious whether there was actually any reputable news about it, but apparently not.

I haven't quit moved to hiding the threads and ignoring people, but that is probably not far away as it clutters up this subforum pretty well.

The essential dynamic on those threads seems to be the same as when my dogs fight. When two of them fight over something, two other dogs on the other side of the room often start fighting too, just because there's dogfightin' going on.

36. i print them and then process them as follows
i start by wetting them with an alkaline based preservative. I then sun dry them by hanging them outside being careful not to exposes them to direct sunlight. The next step is crumble and un-crumble each piece 10 times. The entire batch is then placed in dryer on very low heat for 45 minutes. The resulting sheets are sewn first together to double layer and then on the edge to make a sheet of Hillary cloth. This cloth is then made into clothing that i wear around town.

She is always close by.

35. I have no idea what all the hoopla is about..
but it is reminiscent of the VP pick. I could care less about whether Hillary gets the SOS position or not. If it doesn't pan out, there have been plenty of people who had that position that were locked out of the loop, and any of the decision making in the Administrations in which they served. By the way, do 'news' agencies regularly conduct polls on favorable ratings for cabinet positions?
